Sara

This is typical of the live performances prior to "Live at Budokan", from which time onward Dylan made all his live performances sound worse than the originals. The exception here is "Sara", which is heartbreakingly emtional and nearly as good as the original. "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is also very good. I prefer the officially released album of the Rolling Thunder Revue. Does anyone on this website comment on the movie "Renaldo and Clara" from the same time?

nice change for a live album, emphasis on lyric and music, not volume. Being a huge fan of Desire, I am quite pleased with this purchase!

This album is awsome but i must disagree with you folks who knock the contribution of Joan Baez 'cos i think they are great together and only wish he had put "Deportee" and other songs he done with her on this album. I am not a massive fan of her but together they have something special going. Lots of the songs they did together are on an album called "Hold the fort, for what it's worth" or something like that and just wish i knew how to get hold of it.

bathed in a stream of pure heat

This is much better than hard rain. The electric songs and the desire material is excellent. All the songs sre excellent except maybe the Water is Wide which is quite slow. But otherwise this is Dylan at his much powerful.

What a powerfull record !

the best!

This is an awesome live album! Sound quality is exceptionally clear for a live album. So much energy and emotion comes through each song, the live songs have something special that the studio ones lack. The songs have so many surprising variations, normally loud songs that are slow and subtle, serious songs as playful (Hard Rain), country or folk as rock and roll..that is Dylan always reinventing his own stuff. One of my favorite moments is the beginning of the first song.."Throw my ticket in the wind..." followed by exploding cheer from the crowd..totally blows the nashville skyline version (original version) out of the water!
Wish I could somehow physically be there (must have been an awesome concert to see live) but this album is the next best thing.
Be sure to read the little book included, it says the background of the tour, you'll appreciate the album even more.

There is a hilarious picture of Dylan's mom onstage too (not kidding!)

mmmmmm

mmmmhmm romance in durango may be the sexiest song i have ever heard.

Joan Baez

No Rating

I've never been a fan of Joan Baez, but she does do alright singing here with Dylan on "Blowin' in the Wind." However, any unknown back-up singer very well may have done a better job.

Chimes of Freedom

No Rating

Dylan and Joan Baez recently re-recorded a duet of Chimes Of Freedom in the studio. It's an excellent remake. Does anyone know when and where it was recorded? On which album? It's not on a Dylan album that I know of. In this version, Dylan sings an entirely different melody from the original, while Baez sings the original melody as a backup harmony to Dylan. I love it! I think it was recorded at least within the last 15 years, because Dylan's voice sounds up to date on it.

Classic

SLUMDOG
Love Desire! Love this! Even Joan Baez doesn't sound too bad on this one. Her voice can be too much sometimes but seems a bit mellower on this. Great songs. Great versions and great band.

A classic

5

The thing I like best with this tour and album, is the warmth and the joy that pours out of every song. Is it clearly visible that Dylan is enjoying himself at these shows, and that makes it really fun to listen.

Dylan took everyone by

Dylan took everyone by surprise with the tour and the album! What more could you ask for? Not even J.B knew what lyrics he was going to sing on tour. This album proved Dylan is a risk taker. According to "Ratso" Dylan played Sara in Sara's presences and Mama in Mama's presences. He also completely rewrote Knockin of Heaven's Door. Every song on Rolling Thunder Revue is amazing! Nine years after being called JUDAS the fans are calling out praise for Dylan in 1975. And in 1975 Dylan was doing the same thing he did in 1966. Redfining his music. I cannot choose which disc I like better 1 or 2 I like them the same. I am a sucker for It's All Over Now, Baby Blue.

Dude

Awesome. Tangled up in Blue is so great in this even if its shortened.

This is also one of the best album covers. The hat is sweet, I wish I could pull it off

BUENISIMO

5

Uno de sus mejores discos en directo, con interpretaciones memorables: it-aint-me-babe, lonesome-death-hattie-carroll, entre otras. La verda es que esta es una de mis etapas preferidas.

Awesome

Love the RTR period.

Strong Stuff

4

I would probably give this a five, but Joan never did much for me, and some of the desire songs aren't my favorites, though they are certainly more impressive live to me than on the album. But some of the other inclusions are just terrific on here (Tonight I'll Be Stayinr Here with You, e.g.). A great listen. Very enjoyable. A notch below the 1966 Bootleg Series is how I see it.

Great playing, great live document

4

Another document to the famed Rolling Thunder Revue. One of the best live Dylan releases.

Great live album

4

Great live album, where I would keep out the Joan Baez collaborations.
