The Never Ending Tour Diaries - Thanks for letting us know, I had no idea. I am going to check it out. Think Amazon will have it?

Winston Watson

No Rating

Something that may interest everyone that kind of applies to this album.

Winston Watson is the drummer on this album and was a tour drummer for Dylan in the early to mid nineties. There is a dvd that is out called "The Never Ending Tour Diaries" that is about Winston's tenure in the band. It is a documentary where Winston relates stories (he kept a diary) about what it was like to be on tour with dylan. It is very interesting with quite a few amusing and fasinating stories. This is not some disgrutntled tell-all but it is from a guy that really enjoyed his time in the band. There is no Dylan music or Dylan conversation on the dvd but there is film footage. I rented it from Netflix and it is worth watching.

With God On Our Side is a great song. I really think it is sung with heart and soul. Thanks Bob!

Outstanding

Excellent show from MTV Unplugged. I love this version of "With God On Our Side" that closes the show. "Dignity" smokes and "John Brown" is fantastic.

If you don't own this, now is the time to buy because you can get the dvd and cd in one package for the cd price.

Just bloody awful

1

This is the only Dylan album I've heard that I cannot stand. It's awful. The set is great, but if he doesnt play the set well, it means nothing. It drags on and on and on and the only two songs that are even OK on this album are John Brown and Like A Rolling Stone. Besides that it's all irrellevent drible.

Great live album!!!!

very good

The song selection is excellent and so is the video. John Brown is one of the best songs I think he has ever wrote and I'm glad he plays it.

Gotta get the DVD

Wow! With all of these good reviews, I gotta get the DVD. I forgot that he did MTV unplugged - its been so long. I remember seeing it now, back when Music Television actually had something to do with music.

Why was the SUPERB version of I WANT YOU cut from this album/DVD?
I saw the performance of it on youtube.

Great!

Highway 61. John Brown. Desolation row. Dignity and for me by far the best version of With God On Our Side.

PERFECT!

I usually don't watch concerts, because it bores me, but I keep watching this one over and over! Simply wonderful renditions of such masterpieces as Shooting Star, Desolation Row, Dignity and others. I prefer the above mentioned versions to the originals, I would even say that they are much better. Glad I'm European, for some unknown reason, the American version of this CD omitts Love Minus Zero/No Limit, which is definitely my favorite from this concert. And yes, this is absolutely must-watch - you don't see Bob smiling every day ;)

Dylan's Classics in Rejuvenated Fashion

4

This is good live album that will allow, especially those ones who haven't known Dylan from his early years, to enjoy some of Dylan's classic in rejuvenated fashion.

I am one of those who have started listening at Dylan from his latest works ("Time Out of Mind" has been my first Dylan's CD) and I enjoy some classics such as "All Along the Watchtower", "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", "Like a Rolling Stone", "The Time They Are A-Changin'" in this live version better in than in the original one.

Beside the classics, "Dignity" (best version ever published) is energetic and "Shooting Star" absolutely lovely. Four-star!

Yeah, was great to see him smile, I agree. "Dignity" - imho, best version yet... but I loved every song/take on here. The whole cd/dvd set makes me smile..... Awesome , Oh and Shooting Star...... Perfection...

Here is another reason for getting the DVD in addition to the CD. There is one breathtaking moment when the man actually smiles.

Excellent

I have read many reviews of this album in which they said that it was basically OK, somewhat uninspired, formulaic, audience-appeasing, etc.

I disagree. I have always liked this. Shooting Star and Dignity, especially, are great on here. So is Times and Rolling Stone. He reaches a confidence level with his vocals and performs many of the songs well. With God on Our Side is a surprising closer.

I think he was starting to rejuvenate himself in terms of live performances during this era. As a recommendation, I would get the DVD for a couple reasons. One, it's fun to watch him get frustrated with the mic and with sitting down, and all the other nuances like that, but two, Love Minus Zero was absolutely majestic and is not included on the CD. One of the most beautiful live Bob moments I have seen.

Dave

it's a good set

To my ears this set contains the best available versions of Shooting Star and Dignity. The rest is solid, although as usual the lead off track is not a favourite. Im not that big a fan of his straight, 12 bar songs.

excellent performance

i have the dvd of this and it's an excellent performance.... the setlist is great, the lyrics are understandable, the guitar is excellent, as is the wonderful harmonica.... i can't say enough good things. I wasn't expecting this to be so good, but there you have it.... the DVD is great to watch, if you don't buy the album.....

MTV

Back when MTV used to play music, they had a show called Unplugged. Many an artist made lots of money from releasing albums of their "unplugged" performance. The band is tight and the song selection is great. However, I suggest you get the DVD of said event and see it as well as hear it.

Wonderful performance

I immediatelly fall in love with this album. People used to go to Unplugged to sing covers with a soft style. Dylan goes there and rocks. The instrumentation is great, the singing is great, the versions are wonderful. There's my favourite versions of All along the watchtower, The times they are a-changin', Knockin' on heaven's door, Like a rolling stone and With God on our side.
