Catholics aren't Christians? Somebody better inform Rome. They've been laboring under a misconception for 2000 years!
James Elmo
didnt mean 2 cut u off,
but asking me about god and satan is crazy. these r journeys u must take within ur own spiritual life. i will tell u this. there r 7 outward signs, instituted by christ, 2 give grace. if u need a list i will give u one, but rest assured they exist 2 give u power with roots in the covenant. i need all the grace i can get, some people dont need any. u decide. god has given u free will. use it.
keep in mind the word became flesh, and dwelt among us.
whatever
god? the devil? charlie watson on lead guitar 2 nite in texas? what is going please? or did i read boblinks wrong? talk 2 me, please.
Oops, Kate. I apoligize!
I said Christian and you posted that you weren't a Christian! I apologize! However, Catholic doctrine runs parallel to Christian, or Lutheran, anyway, so my question still stands regarding the devil!
Following the Tour!
I am sooooo envious of all the Dylan fans who get out on the road and follow the tour! It's something that's on my "bucket list", but I'm too spoiled or something to just hop in the car and wing it! I admire those fans who get out there and just do it! Bravo!
Hey Kate! Mo and I want to know about the Christian devil! Even though I was drenched into the Lutheran system and my father was the kind of Catholic who believed that you could do anything you wanted to do as long as you confessed your sin later, I never did, and never will, understand why people buy into the Christian belief system. I don't fault anyone who truly practices what they preach, and believe that whatever lifts a person to a higher spiritual awakening is worthy of respect; however, the attitude that "my way or the highway" that seems to permeate the Christian culture is rather offensive to me. Would you share your thoughts, please? Thanks!
TEST
Having trouble posting; we'll see if this works.

peace.
first of all...
dont call me a christian.
i am a catholic jew.
please, dont ask.....
u r welcomed!
The existence of Satan
Kate,
To ensure that I'm on the same page, are we in agreement that Satan was previously a favored consort and ally of God, and was evicted from heaven for his treason against him? Then he was banished to the real estate market known as "Hell"? When you say you know he exists, would you please elaborate on how you know that is a fact? I am not challenging your beliefs; I am genuinely curious about how Christian believers get to that point of belief. Thank you!
Bob, if you read this PLEASE COME TO VEGAS, WE LOVE YOU
I am hoping you will reconsider and come to Vegas if you have an extra day, but if not this year, next year. We may have to come to Jersey to see you this year. Will be in New York in two weeks, and it is a two hour drive to Jersey. It would be a pleasure and a joy to see you in Jersey, with Willie, and John. Hoping to see you soon, if not in Vegas, we can see you in Jersey. Have a safe trip as you travel through the United States!!!!
Like a Rollin' stone-

pssssssssssst...
i have no faith in satan either, but i know he exists.
yo yo yo yo hommie wazzup?
sweedish soul......u crack me up, gf, do u have a crystal ball? actually some things u assume r accurate some not at all. but this thread is about BOB DYLAN, we just love him.
for the record, my voice sounds like the nanny, i dont own a white dress, i dont do much dreaming, but i love 2 relax and do absolutely nothing. and yes yes i had the best grandpa a girl could have however my brother married some wasp at the dupont country club and pretty much left our family. yes my toenails r silver! u hit that one right on!
the only thing in my room, which has lots of windows surrounded by trees on three sides, is a bright yellow lamp and a bob dylan painting. my soul is protected. i got the full life protection program at baptism when i was 6 weeks old. satan has no power but tries daily 2 destroy me. i do feel death stalking me every minute of my life, but rest assured i defy it by living. i also spend most of my time cleaning house and listening 2 u know who!
hmmmmmm, less than a week now 4 me 2 jump on this tour
and i feel like trickseeee, speed racer's gf.
kisssssssssssssss

Please play "Watching the River Flow," for granddaughter and me!
Dear Kate,
your picture is beautiful!. I hear your voice, bright and singing and sometimes yelling. I see a summerdress with a belt (white?), see your head deep down in a pillow with your hair spread all over when you are so relaxed and some place between a dream and heaven. I see a strong grandfather and a dear brother and lot of relatives. I see your toenails in a light silver color, almost mauve. I see a dark room, too dark for me with a big yellow lamp, and a squeaky chair in that room.
I want you to take care of yourself not because something bad is going to happen but just slow down a little bit to protect your soul. I know you will protest against that but it´s an inner feeling I have. Think about it! And I want you to have fun in that stillness and a wonderful summertime with the ones you love! A big (slow) embrace from another girl!
this is a very beautiful picture
All I know is that I'm thrilled by your kiss
I don't know any more than this
Poor boy, pickin' up sticks
Build ya a house out of mortar and bricks
Knockin' on the door, I say, "Who is it and where are you from?"
Man says, "Freddy!" I say, "Freddy who?" He says, "Freddy or not here I come."
Poor boy 'neath the stars that shine
Washin' them dishes, feedin' them swine
u r right
Dude,
I feel your pain. It was really bad and a real disappointment.
LOL
hey! u shouldnt make me laugh this hard, this early, i might hurt myself.....hmmmmm, u wanna live easy? baby pack ur clothes with mine, bob dylan-wear. i do LOVE the way he dresses. he is fashion.
but, the reason i chose this pic 2 post is the star of david and the crucifix around my neck. 2 me it was fitting 4 this site. it may be hard, but try 2 see past my body and into my soul.
b.t.w. i will don any and all pieces of bob dylan-wear given 2 me and i especially miss my plush brown hoodie, i wore it day and all night long 2 bed sometimes until it was lifted by a thief who just wanted 2 sniff it, sigh, i miss my hoodie with the big eye on my back.
the star of david and the crucifix was swallowed by a pool a few years after swimming and flip turning a thousand laps, i miss that 2, hence the pic is my fav.
i will remember michael jackson as a sensitive artist sent by god 2 give us hope and an insight 2 beauty. he had a huge role 2 play and no matter what people said he was graceful; regardless of how fear tried 2 devour him, it could not. sad 2 say he needed a friend 2 hold him and let him know everything is ok, ***** u know, i know, the sun will always shine, so baby please stop crying cause its tearing up my mind.*****
anyway, eternal rest grant unto michael , lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him, and may all the souls of the faithful, thru the mercy of god, rest in peace...................
Have fun Kate
I think you should change your photo to you wearing one of those fitted Dylan eye t-shirts. it would be more you know appropriate.
Have a blast!
You are RIGHT a bout what they did to Michael jackson: it breaks my heart.
The media sucks.
shaking in my flip-flops
and running my fingers thru the sand, as i wait on this beach 4 bob dylan 2 breeze by this summer. po' boy, jolene, i dont believe u, bob dylan is all over the place as he should be. u either "get" bob dylan or u dont, and from the likes of it, most of us do.
but i dont want 2 be part of any culture that will eat him alive like we did with michael jackson, taking his talent and his brilliance and demanding so much of it, we deplete the man 2 the point he has 2 be chemically hepped up 2 face it all or worse, chemically induced 2 sleep.
maybe i am lying 2 myself, but i am confidant bob dylan is healing himself and honoring the body and the blood god has given him.
i pray daily 4 his health and well being and appreciate that he continues 2 share his wealth with us all.
i am anxiously getting ready 2 follow him 4 a couple of weeks on tour but i do with the understanding he is happy and in love with his music. i dont want him EVER 2 hurt himself 4 my entertainment, but man, oh mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, will i be having FUN with him this summmer.
i know he is just a musician, but sometimes he appears as a missionary 2 me and i get spiritual enlightment which is a blessing.
and if all else fails, i get 2 shake mama shake with the best rockn roll band in the world and yes, i find bob dylan sexually appealling, a hottie.....................leave it at that.
Dylan Concert 7/1 Summerfest Milwaukee
Thank You Bob for a great show!
24 hours later - I'm still feeling the enjoyment of the concert.
I've been to several Dylan concerts in the last 5-6 years & enjoyed them all but last nights concert was amazing. The band was awesome. Bob's voice sounded better & he seemed to be having a good time. His performance of "Forgetful Heart" was a treat. I loved his ending with "All Along the Watchtower". I'm so grateful for all the great songs he's given to us and for still being out there doing concerts.
Dylan, please, go back to
Dylan, please, go back to Brazil .. I really want to see him here. There are many young people who recently discovered his work and would like to see him. I love you so much and I am hopeful to be able see him again.
And you, is really important to me....
If you want the songs to sound like the record, see the Eagles!
The first time I saw Dylan play live was in 1978, and I was sitting next to a very unhappy college journalist from Michigan State University. Midway through the show, Dylan launched into Like a Rolling Stone, and the writer sniffed, "This is the first song tonight that I've even RECOGNIZED." Well, that's Dylan. Always has been, and I hope always will be. From jacking people's expectations at Newport to failing to sing the songs so the fans can sing along last night, Dylan seems to strive to reinvent himself and his material each time he takes the stage. Since that night at the Olympia Stadium in 1978, I've seen Dylan about 10 or 12 times. Each time, he's doing something entirely new. It may SEEM the same, but a slight inflection here, a slight pause there gives a different suggestion to the line and to the song. Maybe I'm just one of those people who in the 60s would have examined every word of the lyrics and inferred meanings that weren't actually there, but if Dylan really were taking the lazy way out, why wouldn't he play the same songs in the same old way every night. Why change them ever so slightly? So slightly that you can hardly tell the difference from night to night. I can't wait to see Dylan play later on in this tour. I just hope he does Desolation Row as he did last night, and I'm also hoping that he'll be at least a verse or two in before I even recognize what song he's singing.
tolivestofly:
Couple songs together!? Hun, you can't be a true fan.
What was the line up?
We're going to hear Bob later this month, so just wondering which band played 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Hey, Oleandersales - very eloquently put. One national magazine's review calls Bob's voice "his glorious croak." Amen.
He Was
Exciting, mysterious, vocally in tune, masterful with the instruments, a virtuoso band leader, a natty dresser and full of life. This was my first time seeing him and the stars were all in alignment for his first show of a long tour. I could not understand every word but he let you know who was in charge. His band was tight and also full of the Dylan energy. I could not believe I was five rows from him. The weather was perfect and the lighting illuminated just the right stuff. I must say that Willie Nelson put on a hell of a show as usual.
Last night's show
My husband had some of the same problems with the show last night.
My idea is this:
You cannot look at music the same way you look at a painting.
A painting is the same every time you see it. So it's pleasing in the same way every time.
Music on the other hand, especially Bob Dylan's, isn't a painting. It's a living, breathing... experience. It will never be the same sound that you heard on your record player.
You must learn to accept that, and you'll enjoy live music much more, especially Bob Dylan!
I agree that the sound was horrible, but I loved every second of it!
For Tolivesoftly
I think that as a performer ages you have to kind of go see the "icon" not the details. Honestly I am sorry I never Michael Jackson now as odd as he was.
On the bright side; my guess is when Bob is no longer with us your memory will reshape the night and you will see and feel things about the live experience that you don't right now. You will know that YOU were there, you were a part of history, you lived it. you will never regret missing an opportunity to see one of the greatest musical writers alive and on the stage.
Down the line I really think different memories of this concert will come back to you. Songs he sang will reverberate differently in your mind. The meaning of songs you have always known may change. It could be 5-10 or 20 years but you will see that night as a moment with humanity, You will see it as a moment of a life lived: YOU WERE THERE.
I find that I never regret money that I have spent on fun or health. We can't take it with us and in latter years we will have the memories. My moments and experiences may not be as good as others but they are mine.
And the world we are living in economically is such that in 10 years there may be NO MORE LIVE CONCERTS?????
Our world is really changing and many beautiful ways of life that we are used to are going to disappear.
The technical details are not the same, the words are more garbled due to age, But you were there.
Very few people get to stand and accept the academy award, shake hands with the pope, eat at the white house.
The next level down is mine or your level: I received Obama's innagural invitation, I stood in a crowd at the vatican to see the Pope, I was on the fringes of woodstock at age 14, and if Dylan plays at the Santa Monica Civic again I may spend $300 bucks to hear lousy sound ,garbled words but to also experience the crowd, the excitement, the happening, to be a privilaged woman who can afford to get close to history, be a part of it.
That in and of itself is also an achievement. To be able to afford the choice.
I NEVER REGRET money I spend on recreation and I spend a lot on that each year.
the first night was Supreme!
don't listen to that other guy. dylan doesn't phrase anything twice the same way, so don't start expecting him to now!
tonight's show had a phenomenal "willie mctell," the best "honest with me" i've ever heard in two dozen or so shows, my favorite live "po' boy" ever, and the highlight of them all, the unbelievable, haunting breakout performance of "forgetful heart." "jolene" also worked well as an encore.
bob doesn't always like being onstage, it seems, but boy he loved it tonight! tonight showed him absolutely in command, perfectly comfortable, boundless energy, real inspiration. first night wonders! this tour promises to be Magnificent!

the whole world is my throne
Day 1 of Tour, Sauget, IL, & Tree Frogs
It's raining tree frogs down on Sage's Farm. My four family members just won the golden tickets. With a tear and a smile, Daddio and I fedexed our early entry Sauget, IL tickets to four lucky family members today.
Though we won't get to be blessed by the sweet sounds & vibrations tommorrow night, our kin will be blessed to live in our favorite world for a few hours. How lucky are they?
To go or not to go was a battle between the heart and the head and the head won, for now. In the future, our family will be working from the road and will catch as many shows as the Universe will allow us to experience. Not sure how, but we're manifesting it.
Bob Dylan / Willie Nelson /Fine Artists in the bands, I've been blessed to be in the now while you are stirring it up you up in the front more times than a girl should be blessed. Now it remains for Daddio to hear Mr. Dylan and band live. He understands the nature of your trippy triplets and should play guitar with your band someday. Truth.
Your music is healing and a heart string & sharing your music with others goes out your way as a small token of pay back. It's a golden ticket to a memory to hold tight to, for it's better than alright.
Next to playing on the beach with our son, there's no place we'd rather be than hearing Mr. Bob Dylan & Band, Willie & Family, Mickey, Paul....and John Cougar and his crew.
Amen for the masters that make the music and their friends & family that make the moment happen for so many.
May the moon shine down on your dreams,
-MJF

Tonight's Concert
Man, what can I say. I 'm fifty years old, have waited my whole life to see Dylan and finally went to see him tonight. I mean, I meant to go see him on many other occasions but something always happened, no money, quick sell out....something. So tonight was to be a moment....
I love Dylan's lyrics, have followed his career since the 70's, played his songs in rock bands and in folk houses. I've defended him against all the haters out there who despise his voice and complain about how they can't understand a thing he says. I must own at least a dozen or more of his albums, not hard core but more than a casual listener. So.
....with a whimper and a bang, I watched my hero hang. I really wish I wouldn't have seen him....it was such a letdown.
His phrasing was just so weird as if he hates to hear people sing along with his songs so he purposely syncopates them in bizarre staccato ways to hinder it.
Huge amphitheater and no video screens. He and his band, along with Willie and his, were ants on the stage. There are five or six large screens that are used to project images to the more distant seats....all were off. We asked why and people said they didn't know but the screens were on for other shows.
His band was super tight and the light show, once they decided to do it was mildly entertaining. He played a decent mix, but man he's next to incomprehensible and I know most of his lyrics? !
Encore, eh...okay but he has said himself that once he heard Jimi do Watchtower he knew that he could never do it another way again, so what does he do? He sings, blurts the lyrics in such an odd fashion that you hardly recognize the song. And me along with about 10 thousand others are just expecting Willie to join him for the encore to sing oh I dunno, Pancho and Lefty or Subterranean or something, but no Willie.
So,,,, 200 dollars down the toilet. I can check it of my life list I guess but I think I would have preferred the allure, and the mystery to this crappy letdown. I really feel like that as iconic figures that both Willie and Bob are just going through the motions to pay the bills. Sad day for me and I'm willing to bet I'm not alone.
Walking out I heard Rusted Root just kicking ass, playing their asses off and thousands just jamming in the aisles. Wish I would have spent my evening there b/c it would've been much better spent. sigh.
Bob! Willie! Do a couple of songs together and both of you should phrase your songs the way everyone has heard them for years. sheesh.
