Winter's Closing in

<];-}D>Well here we are about to celebrate Thanksgiving and preparing for the onslaught of Winter. Time marches on so swiftly, that the present just melts into the past. I am continuing to write and I feel like it's an affliction, like some mental disease has taken over my existence. Here is a sample of my work, it's appropriate for the season.

Fall of Summer

The nights grow longer as the sun recedes,
And the dry leaves rattle among the reeds.
As the cool winds blow the fall of summer about,
I reinforce my shelter and supplies with no doubt,
That the White Death will soon bear down on our lives,
And pick and choose who lives and who dies.

In the day the clouds take command,
And the Sun is unable to lend a hand.
The woods are so gloomy that no creature stirs,
And the horses stand silent without feeling spurs,
Dreaming of the hunt when the Fox went aground,
And finally succumbed to the frenzied hounds.

In the evening the house creaks as the gusts,
Rattle the shutters and unsettle the dust.
Overhead in the sky clouds race past the moon,
And stars twinkle on and off as a lonely raccoon,
Shuffles off in search of it's meal,
Perhaps an honest one, or a prize he can steal.

Much later to bed I pull the covers close,
Up to my chin making sure that my toes,
Won't escape out the end and wake me,
From my slumber with dreams of the sea.
Cast adrift on a ship with no rudder or crew,
Lost and hoping to find my way back to you.

The Unknown Nevada City B and B!

Oly, Anytime you're up this way, feel free to stop by!

Hey, Janmarina! Good to hear from you! What's new in your neck of the woods?

In Bob we Trust. Got Dylan?"

Thanks Sewdish!

Life has been quite wild lately!!!Keep yourself out of that howling wind,it's hard to keep healthy these days!-------Even when we're wearing the best of coats!

Good to see you alive Janmarina!

Good news on a black day!
It turned dark around 2.30 pm in a day with pouring rain and a big storm as well.
Lucky me to wear a coat so warm, to keep me from the howlin' winds.

Phil Spector---

probably didn't have to talk much at all. Some folks think fame is worth dying for.Apparently this woman was one of them,"Someday you'll look to see I'm gone, for tomorrow may rain-----so I'll follow the sun."

Lucy: your home sounds great.

Au revoir

Oleander. . .

Hi, Janet-

I re-read my earlier posting; please don't take my comments personally. I love fashion, too, and I know you work hard for your treasures. I just remember working with gals who had families and made far less money than I did, yet somehow they drove BMW's and carried and wore designer clothing. I just always wondered how they could afford it all and still pay the rent! When I saw that purse, it was a real jolt! Must be those evil credit cards!

Since I love all things Hollywood, I followed the Phil Spector story from the beginning. Amazing that you knew Lana Clarkson. Mr. Spector must have been a very smooth talker to entice her to his house. #1, he's certified freaky and #2, he certainly didn't seem like her type. What a waste of talent he ended up. And what a tragedy for her friends and family. At least the justice system worked this time!

The men are out trimming dead limbs from the cedar trees and the landscaping project has begun in our yard. Lots of BIG boulders all over the yard! Hope they finish before the first snow!

breastfeeding fact #1

the size of the breast does not determine the quanitity of milk produced. this is determined by supply and demand. the more a baby nurses, the more milk that will be produced.

Counting my blessings

................................ I am so glad that I work hard and love shopping and travel.

AND GOD FIRST: THAT'S FOR JAMES ELMO. ALWAYS LOVE GOD FIRST, FAMILY AND NATION SECOND,
AFTER THAT IT'S OPEN.

Men's fascination with breasts. . .

Hi Everyone! Why are men so fascinated with breasts? My ex husband was a "breast man". Then there are the "leg men" and the "butt men", but ALL of them love breasts! Is it a connection bred into men from being breast fed as infants? If they weren't breast fed, did they become "leg or butt men"? I tend to lean toward the idea that little boys found a measure of safety and comfort and reassurance when their mamas breast fed, or scooped them up and cuddled them next to their breasts. Maybe they still long for that comfort and are always wishing they could feel it again the way they did as babies! So, of course, the larger the breasts, the more comfortable and safe they feel? Does this make any sense?

Ladies, I agree with all of your sentiments! It's true; the U.S. has a warped and twisted view of the human body. I blame it on the religious patriarchy, who believed it was more acceptable to flog yourself bloody than to have "unclean" thoughts about the very thing that men and women were created to enjoy together! "Guilty, sinful pleasures" for which we should be ashamed. Says who?

Rene, Your poem is lovely and I hope your wife keeps the original tucked away with all her most intimate and beloved treasures!

Elmo, Back in the 60's, when Bob's star was shooting up into the stratosphere, he was asked by a reporter at a news conference if there was anything in the world that he would consider "selling out" for. In Bob's inimitable way of dealing with such inane questions, he grinned wryly and answered, "Ladies undergarments!" So, to keep that promise, when Victoria's Secret came knocking, Bob delivered!

Janet, I had to buy new eyeglasses, so I drove to the nearest mall, which is in Roseville. I haven't been in a real mall for about 7 or 8 months, so I bought my glasses (Versace's) and strolled around a bit. I used to carry what I thought was a knock off Louis Vuitton bucket bag many years ago that I bought at a swap meet. I never knew if it was real or not, but it finally got too dingy to carry and I sold it at the swap meet myself. I've never been in a L.V. store, but I went in one today and looked at a small-ish, simply styled handbag. I almost gasped out loud when I saw it was priced at $840.00!!!!! I see these bags all over the place! How do working gals afford such luxuries? I know Manolo's and Christian LaBoutin's cost just as much, as well. If I paid for a pair of shoes like that, I would only wear them for the most specia of special occasions, and if I scuffed them, I would cry!!! Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good leather handbag and smart looking shoes, but why do "name" brands command such inflated prices? I bought 2 beautiful, unique, hand tooled leather bags in Eureka for under $400.00 and get asked all the time where I found them. As a licensed fashionista, can you explain this to me?(And guys, I felt the same way when I found out how much people paid for field level tickets to the World Series!)

the pink shirt was a sateeen sunny leigh with ruffles around the cap sleeves and scoop neckline. it needed very little. i had on calvin klein jeans with a distressed army green cloth belt, black and tan stripped socks and black velvet anne klein mules with a heel ( i am short 5'4"). there was nothing between me and calvins but i had on a white lace bra.

Oleander

<];-}D>Hi Janet, Thanks for your kind words. Please don't give up on us! Decent people need to be able to stick together!!!

Well said on all fronts Rene: the poem was gorgeous.

Gorgeous poem brought a tear to my eye.

Men

<];-}D>Thanks for the kind words Elmo. Yes, we must be civil to one another, which is sometimes difficult to maintain. I was raised by devote Catholics and educated by nuns in my early years. Chivalry was a priority in this upbringing, and I revere women as the vessels of our future development. Sadly it is often evident just how far humanity needs to progress to accomplish a higher state of civilization, we need to set our goals with the knowledge that the true strength of mankind is the mind. Once we begin to perceive our lives as reasoning entities we can begin to shake off our animal instincts.

Men!

Good poem and good point Rene.
We men do have a lot to give if we can only remember to avoid distractions and keep first things first.
We do need women like Kate to keep us honest, though.

Marriage

After thirty years of marriage I've found that the key to a great partnership is to never forget the vow "To have and to hold"!
I just finished a poem for my wife to commemerae our marriage.

Green Eyes at Twilight

You ran to me with laughing eyes
Through the fading glow of twilight skies
On that night so far from home.

Then your arms were 'round my neck
That night on our Canadian trek
We were so very much alone.

And I think I'll never find another love but you
The warmth from you would keep me from the cold
Oh the memory of you there up in the Maritimes
Will comfort me in winter when I'm old.

You ran to me with your green eyes
And then I finally realized
That in them I'd found my home

And now the years have passed
Oh how our love did last
Here between the sand and the sea foam.

And I never tried to find another love like yours
The warmth from you did keep me from the cold
And the memory of you there up in the Maritimes
Is comforting to me now that I'm old.

Image and Dominance

Preoccupation with self image is not helpful to making healthy relationships.
“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."
The image makers first steal from us, then pervert what they have taken, then sell back to us a lie.
The sad part is that we buy. We should be angry at them (maybe just laugh at them). Instead we judge ourselves by false standards. There is a hard justice in this. We suffer because of our own foolishness.
The image-makers want us to believe beauty is something they alone possess and so if we want it we must give them money. But it doesn't have to be that way. Beauty surrounds a loving heart. The only cost is to claim what we already possess.
Bob Dylan's part in this Re: the V. S. add? I don't know. Maybe cynicism; I would not blame him for feeling overwhelmed at times. But then again, he is free to do as he wishes just as anyone else. "It's All Good", you know.

Football is a game of dominance. "Winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing", a remark attributed to UCLA Bruins football coach Henry Russell ("Red") Sanders, is the saddest remark I have ever heard in my life. Feminism will produce nothing of value if women only use it as an opportunity to take on rolls now being played by the most stupid men. We are entangled in chains each has created to snare the other.
In our selfish struggle for false power, the innocent, our own children, are left to fend for themselves. It is emotional abortion. My generation, the generation of the 60's social movement, are even more guilty than our parent's. And so on it goes, each generation becoming increasingly disaffected. The Rock and Rap lyrics scream out warning louder and louder every year, but we blame the messenger and go about business as usual, annoyed at the disturbance.
"I'll say this, I don't give a damn about your dreams"
"Yonder stands your orphan with his gun"
"when you gonna wake up"
Thanks for letting me rant.
James Elmo

keep on rollin´ on the floor Kate...

AHAHAHHAHHHHAAAAAAAhahahahahaahaaaaa

ROTFLMAO............

sweedish soul seems like u r the only one missing "it".

pamphlets and understanding

with 8 x 10 glossy pic with lines and arrows.......

listen, the message is clear, the message is plain. men, women, children and teens MUST have a renewed awareness about the breast as a milk producing organ 4 the young.

it MUST be diminished as purely a sexual object.

this is the stepping stone on which civilization rests. stop ripping infants from their mothers womb, get back 2 the mother and child reunion, the foundation of society.

is it a surprise 2 u that we have these gang rapes with so much frequency? we tolerate blatant sexual disrespect all over the media and on TV and in films. football and all its culture is an outta control boys club and breeds this sexual objectification of women. it is soooooooooooooooooooooooo a mans world it is making me sick. everything that has manifested has been from a male persepctive and it just is not working because it is immature in nature and weak in will from passion.

a practical step 2 turn this around is a 10 minute introduction of the basic scientific facts of the female breast. it is important that ALL facets of society be educated, not just men. i have found more resistance from women because they r just afraid of what "people will think" if they breastfeed. the only way 2 combat fear is facts.

this is the first step in teaching men their place in life. as women we must stop once and 4 all this strange notion that is is acceptable that men pray every morning. "thank u lord god for not making me a woman" this prayer is disgusting, plain and simple. and it is our moral duty as women 2 make sure men stay beneath our feet and trained 2 protect and defend and cater 2 the more intelligent sex.

the fact of the matter is men and women are not equal. women r above men, the perfection of god's creation, since he made us last. :)

it is time gentlemen 2 defer 2 the fairer sex and take ur place as second fiddle in the chain of command. ok? lets not fight about it, just do it and be obedient. a better world will come from ur submission. ty.

Janmarina - where are you?

Are you doing fine? I miss your comments!
I miss you!

Breastfeeding during halftime. . .

From what I've read about conservatives' objections to discussions about birth control in sex education classes across the country, I doubt they would allow such a discussion or exhibition to get anywhere near the school grounds; however, I know that some schools have the program where girls take life-like infants home for the weekend to get a clear understanding of the level of care infants require. Maybe a class on breastfeeding could accompany such a class; however, boys wouldn't likely be invited, unfortunately! The article about the rape mentioned that the boys/men involved were so desensitized to human emotion, that they didn't view the girl as human or female, but more as an animal who struck out against their initial fondling of her, and after she scratched them, they felt they were entitled to teach her a lesson, as they would their dog.

The key word here is desensitized. With 99% of kids communicating through tweets and texts, Facebook, etc., I believe that plays a huge part in the problem. Then there's the rap/gansta culture, which glorifies and rewards the dehumanization of women. Lastly, boys learn their social morals from their parents. When dad beats mom and mom accepts it as a normal part of life, Junior thinks it's okay, as well. Then, mom turns around and tells her son he's a no good S.O.B., stupid, and she's sorry she ever gave birth to him. Boys from these environments learn to see all females as enemies, and could care less about anyone else's feelings or rights, since no one has ever cared about theirs. I say, limit kids access to all electronic communication devices to two hours a day and make volunteering at daycare centers, homeless shelters, or assisted living homes part of their grade in social studies. Everyone touts sports, sports, and more sports to keep boys off the streets, but all that does is fire up their testosterone and aggression levels further! It's better than nothing, and of course, more attractive to them, but for them to learn compassion and empathy, and to feel the emotional rewards of giving to other humans, they need to be jolted out of their private pity parties and made to hold hands with and look into the eyes of someone who's depending on them for assistance.

And for those rapists? Castration is an excellent idea! Maybe in a public place with a big crowd cheering!

Keep on cooking, gal!

"In Bob we Trust. Got Dylan?"

-

-

no, i am making soup, the castration will have 2 wait,

the revolution will have 2 wait. my long range tactic is 2 have a breastfeeding awareness campaign at every half time football game from pop warner 2 high school 2 college 2 the NFL. 10 minutes at halftime. if you do that 4 a few years i think the message will get in that a woman's body is not 2 be used 4 deviant sexual purposes and that the breast was designed 2 produce milk 4 the young.

education and alot of bob dylan 2 raise consciousness.
u have a better idea?

Oleander, there's still room for you. . .

. . . here in Nevada City! Which hotel were you approached about buying? There are many beautiful Victorian bed and breakfast inns here; we stayed in two of them on our honeymoon! You're right about the Indian history. It's Maidu, primarily, and the Nisenan tribes, however, as gold fever struck, and the miners brought new diseases into the area, the tribes were unable to develop any immunity, and died off over the years or were sent to reservations. As far as being holy, it's holier than L.A., for certain, but the way the miners stripped the land and cut down the trees, and contaminated the underground rivers, I'm not sure how holy it still is! It sure is beautiful, though, especially now with the fall foliage bursting out everywhere! Now that the AMGEN bike race will be bringing Lance back, our little berg will be rockin'!

How was everyone's Halloween? I was going to wear my Jack Sparrow costume, but ran out of spirit gum to glue on the mustache and beard, so I put on my witch clothes and partied with the neighbors on Friday night. On Saturday night, I went to a Samhain celebration and "dumb supper"( where you eat in silence to honor your departed ancestors). The moon was big and full and cast such a beautiful gray-blue light through the trees. I can't get enough of it sometimes!

Finally! Payday is here and I can buy Bob's Christmas album! I sure wish I could see Bob dancing and prancing and SMILING at these concerts I've been reading about! I am so glad he's happy!

Geez, it's 2:00 a.m. Damn time change has my sleep patterns more screwed up than ever! Oh well, at least I don't have to get up early anymore!

Toodle-loo, pals!

"In Bob we Trust. Got Dylan?"

Kate, get out of the kitchen and get ready to. .

. . .get your hackles up. I thought about you as I was reading the SF Chronicle this morning. A 15 year old girl attending the homecoming dance at her school in Richmond, left the dance to call her father to pick her up. She walked through an area of the school known for bad boys hanging out, drinking and drugging. She knew some of the boys who were hanging around and they asked her to join them. Long story short, she was beaten and gang raped by about 15 boys/young men and some of them were calling their friends, NOT to call the police, but to come and WATCH!!!!! Finally, a neighbor heard the noise as the crowd grew larger, and he called the police. It was sooo horrendous and brutal, the actual hardened-by- prison gangbangers in the neighborhood have vowed to find the rapists and retaliate. The quote in the paper said" the rapists better hope the cops find them before we do, because what they did to her, we're going to do to them."
The authorities say it was a result of teenage street culture and machismo.

I'm a peace loving person, but sometimes, people deserve what they get. I hope the gangbangers find them first.

Bob Dylan in Nevada City!

Here's a good story! I had a bad day yesterday and called my hubby from I-80 in Sacramento to tell him we were going out for dinner. It was very cold and windy last night, but we drove down the hill and parked in the free parking area and trudged up the street to Las Katarina's Mexican restaurant. The streets were pretty deserted due to the weather, but there was one street musician out there braving the weather and singing and playing his heart out. As happens so often in my Bob Dylan life, as we were getting close enough to actually hear what he was singing, I immediately burst into a huge smile and my mood lifted as I heard this guy belting out "Hurricane"! I had to sing with him from the other side of the street! As the rest of my day had been going, Las Katarina's was closed, so we had to trudge back to our car and go to Amigos, but I got to hear the troubadour sing the rest of the song! That would NEVER happen in my old SoCal town!

Hollywood Halloween Party. . Oleander???

Hey! I read in the paper about some fabulous Halloween street party being held in Hollywood. Are you going? Sounds incredibly fun!

Caprese salad and artichokes!

UMMMMM Sounds sooo good! We had 5 tomato bushes this season and we ate Caprese salad (mozzarella/ tomatoes/ olive oil) almost every night during the summer! It's hard to think of artichoke recipes! I just steam them and dip the tips in mayo w/lemon.
Good qhestion, Kate- What would we feed Bob Dylan if he came to dinner? I guess I would try really hard to find out what his favorite meal would be for starters, but if I couldn't find that out, I would make the best tasting dish I know how to cook without screwing it up! When I go back to Hibbing this year, I'll try to find out if anyone knows what Beatty, (Bob's mom) used to make for him. I have a recipe for her banana bread-it has chocolate chips in it, if I remember correctly!

"In Bob we Trust. Got Dylan?"

u can hang back or fight ur best on the front line.........

Angela Shelton is a model, actress, comedian, writer and filmmaker who set off across the country to make a documentary about other women named Angela Shelton during the recent writer's strike. It was supposed to be funny. Instead she ended up documenting the lives of 40 women, 60 percent of whom had been raped, beaten or molested, and found herself on a path to self-discovery in her film "Searching for Angela Shelton," available in its entirety at SnagFilms.

Angela and her crew of five climbed into an RV and took off in search of other women with her name as a way of examining women in America. According to Angela, "My survey said that women have been screwed over, raped, beaten, stolen from, starved, frozen in fear, kept silent and weak, but we are stronger than any force imaginable. And we have not only survived, we are prevailing and you haven't seen anything yet. "

While on her journey, Angela found that the Angela Shelton in Charlotte, N.C., where her father lives, tracks sexual predators. Angela's own father molested her as a child, and it becomes clear to her that this journey isn't just about other Angela Sheltons -- it's about her as well, and she ends up on her dad's doorstep on Father's Day, to have a talk about the abuse he subjected her to as a child.

Since making the film, Angela and her movie have been featured on "48 Hours Investigates" and "Oprah," and the movie has been shown on Lifetime. She now travels the country speaking about sexual abuse and has started a foundation to help survivors. She was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the United States Department of Justice for her work with crime victims, and she is releasing a workbook for schools and support groups to use in conjunction with her movie to help survivors deal with trauma.

Not bad for a lady we get to watch drain a septic tank.
