Forgetful heart
Lost your power of recall
Every little detail
You don't remember at all
The times we knew
Who would remember better then you
Forgetful heart
We laughed and had a good time you and I
It's been so long
Now you're content to let the days go by
When you were there
You were the answer to my prayer
Forgetful heart
We loved with all the love that life can give
What can I say
Without you it's so hard to live
Can't take much more
Why can't we love like we did before
Forgetful heart
Like a walking shadow in my brain
All night long
I lay awake and listen to the sound of pain
The door has closed forevermore
If indeed there ever was a door

hey rainer
r u crazy?
and who is leornard cohen? if anything he is ripping bob dylan off. this is an amazing frickin song and it is ALL bob dylans and from the heart. 2 live it u would have 2 explode. that is what he is talking about, his forgetful heart is just keeping him alive and doing what it needs 2 do 2 survive. he would DIE without his true love otherwise.
wake up.
Forgetful Heart
I can't agree that there is any originality or depth to this song. As a matter of fact, with this song, Dylan is ripping off Leonard Cohen, both in his song style posturing and feeling-tone. Now, that's nothing new with Dylan, he knows his genres and topoi (themes) like few others did or do, witness his weekly radio hour (unless all the work is done by his excellent research-musicologists). But why wouldn't he stand on the shoulders of giants?, he said as much: 'I know my song well before I start singing.'
Having said that, I find nothing original in either content or images in this song. houlders of giants. Dylan has finally let us in on his influences, as he outlines them himself in his 'Chronicles, part I'.
At any rate, Dylan can do what he likes nowadays or as always. But this song is fakery at its worst. A Leonard Cohen concert is a fine experience, if his type of songs interest you.

Forgetful Heart
Forgetful Heart
Last your power of recall
Every little detail
You don't need me to let out
The times we knew
Who will remember better than you
Forgetful heart
We have to have a good talk you and I
Its been so long
I will content to let the days go by
But you were there
You were the answer to my prayer
Forgetful heart
We loved with all the love that life can give
But can I say without you it is so hard today
Can't take much more
Why can't we love like we did before
Forgetful heart
Like I walk in shadow in my way
All night long
I lay awake and listen to the sound of pain
The door has closed thru ever more
If indeed there ever was a door

I love Bobby's new lp. Not crazyyy about the cover pik, but what the heck. I never expected, but well it looks like I may have to transcribe these words and some of the other missing lyrics from this lp.
I was just listening and reading the lyrics from Infidels and the out-takes lp. Man..... 'I and I' is a great song.
Thanks Bob. It's been a pleasure of a life to be able to listen to you through my whole life.
best from the SF Bay......Mark Erickson
Forgetful Heart
Hard to really chose, but of all the great songs on Together Through Life, Forgetful Heart is one of the most moving. They are ALL great songs and shows the continued creativity and passion of Bob. Even Bob once said he can't write songs like he used to, they don't just 'come to him'. Well, I respectfully disagree and find him a continued inspiration who goes RIGHT for the heart of the matter through his own experience.
