I get the blues for you baby when I look up at the sun
I get the blues for you baby when I look up at the sun
Come back here we can have some real fun

Well it's early in the evening and everything is still
Well it's early in the evening and everything is still
One more time, I'm walking up on heartbreak hill

Shake, shake mama, like a ship goin' out to sea
Shake, shake mama, like a ship goin' out to sea
You took all my money and you give it to Richard Lee

Down by the river Judge Simpson walkin' around
Down by the river Judge Simpson walkin' around
Nothing shocks me more than that old clown

Some of you women you really know your stuff
Some of you women you really know your stuff
But your clothes are all torn and your language is a little too rough

Shake, shake mama, shake it 'til the break of day
Shake, shake mama, shake it 'til the break of day
I'm right here baby, I'm not that far away

I'm motherless, fatherless, almost friendless too
I'm motherless, fatherless, almost friendless too
It's Friday morning on Franklin Avenue

Shake, shake mama, raise your voice and pray
Shake, shake mama, raise your voice and pray
If you're goin' on home, better go the shortest way

I love this song Shake Shake Mama. Actually love them all.

This is Esther

I love this song Shake Shake Mama. Actually love them all.

This is Esther

I wonder...

If it might be:

"While it's early in the evening and everything is still"

Instead of "Well"?

Anyway, just a thought amongst many others :)

"Ship going out to sea"

Spelling correction.

"Took all my money...."

What I hear is:
"Took all my money and you give it to Big Jim Lee"
Refering to the "ship going out to see", Charley Patton reference?

"you took all my money...

...and you gave it too rigidly".

Not likely I know, but it's another possibility

Some adjustments

Actually, I think it is:

Im Walking up on Heartbreak Hill.

Don't think it's Richard Lee (makes no sence, but who knows).

And it's Judge Simpson, not George. And of course Bay and not Pray.

That's what Im hearing.

Cheers

When the lyrics are posted we'll know for sure. Right?

I agree with lestat, I'm hearing "pray" in the last verse, that's what I heard the first time I heard the song.

Also, anybody out there named Richard Lee? and how much money did you get?

No I think it's bay

Jimmie

Last verse I am hearing "pray"

Shake shake mama, raise your voice and pray

verse two

"One more time I'm walking up on Heartbreak Hill"

Shake Shake Mama .........transcribing this I got the blues Bob

Mark Erickson...www.markerickson.com
