MGM Grand Concert
I need to add my raves and cheers for the MGM Grand concert at Foxwoods on Friday: absolutely one of the best shows I have ever seen.
As I live in Connecticut, but don't like highway driving, I took the Land Jet casino bus from Southbury, about a two hour drive. I was the only person who got on at my stop, but when we reached Waterbury, the bus almost filled with senior citizens. Although I have been a Bobfan since the mid-60's, I haven't quite accepted the fact that I might also be a little bit "older." But I give those seniors on the buses a lot of credit to climb on with their walkers, canes and oxygen to have a fun time at the casino. I just worry that they might be spending non-discretionary income on the slot machines.
I spent my whole time on the bus talking about Bob. One of the ladies I talked to was emphatic in her negative opinion of Bobby - she said she only listened to country music, and besides he certainly couldn't sing. She was also a staunch fan of Tony Orlando. Since most of the people sitting around me couldn't remember any of Bob's songs, I started an impromptu sing-along of "Blowin' in the Wind" which they all knew. A couple of people wondered if he were still alive and I reassured them heartily that he definitely was and that he was the only reason that I would set foot in any casino.
I was picked up in a lovely black stretch limo and taken to my inn since I could not take the return bus that night - concert got over too late. The limo driver got a lot of tips during that overnight stay (four times in the limo in less than 24 hours.) I met a very nice young man from Vermont in the limo who was also going to see Bob. One thing I find so extraordinary when talking to other Dylan fans is that age becomes irrelevant. You can be in a group of strangers and it takes just a few minutes for everyone to be talking together - it is that magic appreciation of an extraordinary individual whose words and music have touched us all in different ways and at different times of our lives. When you look at the audience it doesn't seem to matter the location or what kind of venue, from 16-60+ are all there basking in the glow of the magician on the stage. I was jealous of my limo companion since he was also heading off to Atlantic City and Saratoga.
After enjoying a lobster roll in Junior's for a "paltry" $19.00 I headed towards the theatre. I had a great seat in the center orchestra in the 8th row just about lined up with Bob at his keyboard. Like others I also brought my binoculars. It's an interesting experience when looking through binoculars and then looking back at the stage without them. With the binoculars you seem so connected to the person(s) you're looking at and then when you put the binoculars down the whole perspective changes and it returns to normal.
I was sitting between two women on my right and two men on my left. The guy next to me seemed to be the non-Bobfan friend of the guy next to him because he never applauded or got up for the standing ovations that Bob and the band received all night long. His friend made up for him since he kept stomping with his right leg so hard that he was making the floor vibrate. At least he was stomping in time to the extraordinary music emanating from the stage.
People have been listing the songs and how incredible each of them were. So many superlatives well-deserved. I'll just add some additional thoughts and impressions. When Bob started 'The Times They Are a-Changin' " I kept thinking how that song was the one that made me want to change the world and teach everyone to read. Well, I tried - didn't get as far as I would have liked, but thanks anyway Bob. Then following was "Things Have Changed: and I wondered if this was a subtle political endorsement. I am still amazed at the power of music and its words to work wonders on people's hearts, minds, and souls.
I didn't want the concert to end. I hadn't kept track of the songs, but I was pretty sure that "Thunder on the Mountain" was the last song before the encores. And I was one of the people standing up and dancing all by myself in my row. Nobody was saying "sit down" so I just kept dancing.
It was such a wonderful evening. The sound was fantastic, the performance was terrific, the audience was with Bob all the way: one of those times when all the factors that make a concert great, all converge together for an unforgettable experience.
Thanks Bob
And then there was the wait on Saturday until the 4:00 P.M. bus back to Southbury. Oh well............
MGM Grand Show
Was this a great show or what! I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. It was my second Dylan concert, the first in many years. I had been following the setlists via the internet, so was surprised by his selections, although NOT disappointed my any means. He came out rockin' hard with Leopard Skin Hat which set the tone for the rest of the concert. I was delighted when he sang "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight". The ONLY disappointment I had was that he didn't sing "Spirit on the Water", but everything was so wonderful I got over that quickly. I plan to go again when he's in this region. I love this guy and am treasuring every minute of the show.

Foxwoods Concert
On August 15 we saw Bob Dylan in concert at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. I have read the reviews on this site. I am in disbelief. Why can't you who went, and feel the need to write a critical review, get a grip.
If you feel inclined to go to see the great and wonderful Mr. Dylan you should have enough sense to sit down, listen and watch, be quiet until you have to yell, then be polite and do that yelling at fitting times. Enjoy the show. Let us others enjoy it.
I consider myself one of Bob's biggest fans. My husband and I have seen him 10 times now.
I was looking forward to going to see him that summer so long ago, when they announced on the radio that he had a motorcycle accident and the show was canceled. I was at first heart broken to think something had happened to him and then for myself because I wasn't going to see him.
In the 60's my friend and I would go to the Village and hang around just to see if we could get a glimpse of him, Just in the City, being Bob. We didn't want to meet or greet him, didn't want to ask for an autograph, or even talk to him. We just wanted to get a glimpse of him. That's all.
The small CT town I lived in didn't get the news of Bob too swiftly. When we were looking for him in NYC he was already England for the second time. Playing for the Queen The Beatles and Donovan among many others.
Now each time I have seen him it has been a wonderful experience. He is the "Song and Dance Man".
People didn't get it when he sang Maggie's farm. He went electric. Big deal. He was great!
I read these reviews most of you have written and wow, I am amazed at your self importance. Just like before. You just don't get it.
As I told a man in the audience once in a North Carolina baseball stadium concert, who was complaining that "He's wearing sequins!"
"He's Bob Dylan, he can do whatever he wants!"
He didn't get it either.
This concert at the MGM Foxwoods was GREAT! He sang, played keyboard and harmonica with great skill. His voice hit all the notes and in Nettie Moore was so sweet it was clear he opened his heart to us.
I yelled with excitement at the amazement of hearing him sing the songs again. Which ever he picked to play for us was fine with me.
Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat is one of my favorites so I was fired up with that opening. The Wow-That-Is-Bob-Dylan feeling blew right through me.
As many of you have already gone through the songs I don't feel the need to. I do however have to mention how tremendous it was to hear Nettie Moore, and The Chimes Of Freedom Flashing.
He was kind to the old fans, doing the 60's songs in slow even sing along quality. He did them fantastically too.
He kindly walked around a bit, just to stretch, or to let us see him dressed up in his Beautiful Black suit with green shirt and black boots(maybe of Spanish leather?)
He walked over and changed harmonica's twice. held out his hand while playing. Did some classic Bob Dylan moves. Took his hat off once, that I saw.
The show as always was wonderful. I couldn't stop smiling as I watched and listened in the 9th row, left. Looking most of the time through binoculars even though we were so close.
I have no complaints except of some of you other concert attendees.
How can you criticize anything he would do? He is Bob Dylan. He does what he wants. He is the Entertainer. He always has been always will be.
He was kind gracious and well skilled for this appearance. I have never been disappointed in his artistry.
He was the best ever Friday night. The place was comfortable and much more intimate than the Mohegan Sun.
He looks fitter, younger, and like himself this year. I read that he sang Visions of Johanna at a following show. Wow.
Like I read another older fan wrote, something like he reminds us that we made it. Great! That's the spirit!
It is, was, and always will be great to see the Famous Bob Dylan in Person. I look forward to seeing him next time! With the mixture of old, young and somewhere in between aged people and songs.
Thank You Bob! We were there!
We'll see you in anything, so we'll stand in line.

Foxwood Rocked
So I was there. I mean I was taken back. Beyond awesome. Well,I was off to the side so I was dancing around most of the night. The security kept trying to get people to sit down. Bob Mania. Finally, everybody was up and dancing and rushing the stage. I don't know how the band keeps up. He improvises everything. Tunes Lyrics Phrasing Each show is incredible. I go back to Huntington Beach 1964. So over the years, I have seen a lot of Bob Dylan. The concert is still ringing through my head and it is Sunday.
Wrote on my web page-web.me.com.moearmstrong1 about how great the night was. So on and off I was there over the years. Bob Dylan was a force. People talk about his voice. Well, I went to the bathroom and heard the music piped in and he had great pitch and delivery. Sometimes, I think the instruments are mic'd up. He still has a 1960's or 1950's garage band mentality. Crank up the instruments cause the sound system doesn't work. The mix sounded great in the bathroom and that sound probably was coming off the sound board. Hey, I cried when I hear Chimes of Freedom. In 1966, I came back from Vietnam and way too much combat and heard the Byrds do this and well.....I knew I was never going to be soldier no more. A vagrant maybe. Life worked out for me and looks like it also working out for Bob Dylan. Better and more original and more artistically complete than ever before. And by looking at this crowd-life is working out for all us there that night Foxwood Rocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha Harran no i was not one of them. And I know what you mean about standing up concerts. I'm as much of a fan of Dylan as I am Pearl Jam (me being only 20). Atually I saw Pearl Jam in 06 on Dylan's birthday and they played Forever Young and Masters of War. Great show. Saw them twice this year.

dodging tornados and bus fires
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh it felt so goood 2 sleep twelve hours and take a long HOT shower. i finally hit the road at 3pm, the five hours inside the frozen traffic was to be expected on a friday night heading out of the metropolitan area, but the swirling black cloud prepping to touch down and call itself a tornado was not. was i pressing my luck? wednesday night in asbury i saw a woman hit the floor on the rail in a heat stroke just as the band took the stage and the lights went up. the back of a peter pan bus caught fire on route 2 into foxwoods and i was wondering what would happen next....
how about, I BELIEVE IN YOU? this tour is all about the faith.
why else do u leave your family and job and suspend all routine to catch a piece of a dream you vaguely remember having? it all makes sense when bob dylan comes on stage and says "strike up the band" and MAN, they hit it! he has been playing like a rolling stone with much frequency and fervor. its on time in my homeless life; how does it feeeeeeeel? to be without a home? my back and bones ache for being displaced and sleeping on the floor, and thru out the horror i have a feeling of peace, everything will be ok. bob dylan and his band r based in reality, so night after night what u get is a little piece of the freedom in their souls. i'll be ur baby tonight is one of those tunes where the band was superb, bob dylan was feeling it on this night. chimes of freedom was done with the kind of social conviction that created the dylan image and it reminded me of how much i love the front line soldier in him even tho he has the resources of a general. i always enjoy hearing tweedle dee dum, just like the riff and remember when it first came out how my babies loved singing it with me. bob dylan had on his GREEN shirt and it looked so good in the light of his diamonds, sighhhhhhhh, heart of mine, be still!

seemed like a break from the usual set lists in that there was much less from "modern times"replaced with a magnificent "i believe in you" and "just like a woman"-nice to here" leopard-skin pill box hat"as the opener as opposed to the usual "maggies farm"or "rainy day women"-for the first time at dylan,we were in back of the rudest, inconsiderate dylan fans we've ever been with-insisted on standing and dancing the whole show while repeated requests to security were met with "we cant make them sit down"---one security official said bob dylan told him "personally"that anyone can stand if they want to-i dont believe this slob even talked to bob and if he did,i doubt thats what bob intended-$100 to look at the back of an aging deadhead wannabe made a musically magical evening a disappointment by mgm grands lack of security enforcement for the benefit of all the fans
Best show for me
I found some time to sneak away from the family and stuff to write a reviews. Last night was my second show, my first was Hershey last June. My mother and I arrived at Foxwoods around 5:30 and parked in the parking deck, we made a few of the bottle cap necklaces to sell. After we made a few we walked into the elevator, and when we got out Queen of Spades noticed me and we all walked to the entrance of the theatre. At the entrance I got to meat Milkcow and her friend. We got to talk for awhile and discussed all different stuff. Then Milkcow noticed Baron he was walking around meeting with some people in the managment and some friends. He's a big guy, he could probally put up a good fight. After the nice conversation with Milkcow and her friend my mother and I went to eat at the food court. After that we walked around to see what was around at the MGM side of the casino.
I brought in my camera and my mom had some necklaces, we never sold them, didn't have time. But when we were waiting at the souveneir line, my mom was talking to a man and his daughter. She was probally 9 or 8? It was her first show, so my mom let her pick out a bottlecap necklace. I got the grey T-shirt and a blue poster. The poster said 8 PM sharp! Show time was 9 PM. We finally made it to our seats around 8:30. Great seats and great view all night, different view of Bob this show, saw more of his side. But at times I thought I was at a Little Richard concert back in the 50's with the way Bob was moving around. A few minutes later my mom and I were sitting down waiting for the show, and some nice lady comes over and asks, "Are you Geoff?" and she handed me a really cool picture frame with a picture of Bob from the 1960s. The nice lady was BostonAreaBobFan accompanied by Anything But A Roll. I was shocked at first, and so were the people next to us. Boston walked away so fast, we had to go down and say thanks. I went down to Boston and Roll's seats, and we talked until show time. The frame is definatley going in my dorm room when I move in on Thursday. It will go with my Hershey poster and the Foxwoods concert. And thanks also for the cool pins of Bob too. I'm glad that I was able to meet alot of the people from ER, really great group of Bob fans. So then we walked back to the seats and later the limping roadie was out there fiddling around with some of the stuff. The Nag Champa was burning all night long, and smelt kinda good.
Later around 9:05 PM the intro music came on and the intro was given by the man in the long white beard. Bob kicked off with a rockin' version of Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat. I got yelled at during this song for pictures, but the lighting was so great for pics. He sounded great all night long, the theatre was a great place for Bob, usually it takes a while for the sound to get going. But it was great early. Next was an amazing version of The Times, wich included some harp in it. Another rockin song followed, Things Have Changed. A great combination, especially with the way the fit together. At this time, most of the crowd was in the nice comfy seats with the big cusions. I believe the only ones dancing was Milkcow and the lady next to her. Milkcow had a great view of Bob, and probally was the one that motivated him alot to play all these great songs. Stu was audible tonight, he had the pecking head motion going on while he played behind Bob. Bob was wearing green tonight to go along with the black suit, the band was in all black. I'll Be Your Baby Tonight was another great number, at this point none of the songs were played at Hershey so I was thrilled! Next the house shook with a hard rockin' performance of Can't Wait. Before he played Can't Wait Bob went over to center stage, and I thought he was about to pick up the guitar, it sure did look like it. Then the awesome Blonde on Blonde version of Most Likely You Go Your Way And I Go Mine. It seemed similar to the Mark Ronson remix. By this time Billy The Kid came after selling his extra ticket. Didn't get to talk to him much during the show but was able to after. High Water was awesome too with the banjo. Chimes of Freedom, what more do I need to say? A great song by a great performer. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum sounded great, and was cool to see. My mom was aking why is he singing about Disney characters? I don't mind if Bob plays the keys, because he is really enjoying it especially with the moves he makes. Again, I Believe In You, what more do I need to say? My favorite gospel period song, he sounded great on that tune. I can't wait until the bootleg! The next highlight was Just Like A Women, great version of the song, the audience was singing along on this one, and it sounded great too, that would be cool if they captured it for an official release. Nettie Moore was great, and was the first song from Modern Times, no Spirit or Horizon. I wouldn't have mind Horizon, since I haven't heard it yet. But then came Thunder on the Mountain. It was really played fast tonight. I finally stood up for this song, and kinda moved around, I didn't want to make anyone jealous because of my awesome dancing moves. I think I can boogie good. The the encore, and my mom got to hear the only song she knew, she only knew "How does it feel?" Like A Rolling Stone, a masterpiece. The band was rockin the house. Denny's solos were great on this one, but not as good as the one from Brussels last year. Then came the hard knockin foot stompin noise poppin kick assin version of All Along The Watchtower, George really shines on this song with the drums. We didn't get the three song encore, but who cares, we had I Believe In You/Can't Wait/Chimes of Freedom/. The Band and Bob came to the front of the stage and Bob had his hands in the air, "Raise the roof! Raisin the roof!" - That's what he said to himself, I could read his lips.
After the show we walked out waited a few minutes to say goodbye to the ERs, didn't see any and we were going to Hard Rock, so I dropped off the posters and really cool picture I got from Boston at the car. Came back and found BTK, Roll, and Boston back by the theatre, we all talked for awhile. We all walked back towards the Foxwoods part of the casino, and me and my mom stopped at Hard Rock Cafe. I had a virgin stawberry daiqari? And had to get some aspirin, had a head ache from the cigs and smoke. Saw alot of hoochie girls walking around with their short skirts and stuff. I was looking. Took a shuttle back to the parkind deck from Hard Rock and drove back home. We got back to East Hartford around 2:30 AM. At times I couldn't believe I was driving, I was so tired I couldn't believe I was staying on the road. But my mom talked to me and that kept me awake, along with the radio.
Great show, and it was great to meet all of you there! And thanks for the frame Boston, I'll post a picture of it on the wall of my dorm when I move in.
Oh, I'll post some pics that I got too!

Magnificent! This was our second concert--the first was last year in Bridgeport, CT. We took our sons this time--we all enjoyed it. Everything was ideal...sound, venue, songs, and Bob's voice was much better than expected based on comments from other posts. We were astounded that he sang Chimes of Freedom...what a thrill that was! Bob...we have 8-10 more years to work before we can retire and become your groupies...we hope you are still touring then! See you next year!

My seats are fifth row left side. I usually get better because I know a roadie of Bob's, but I felt bad asking him for tickets three times in one year so I guess fifth row left side is going to have to do this time round. I'm coming from Worcester MA. Get out of work at 5 and plan on speeding down there.
