the baked macaroni

at jills kitchen at the venue was superb. iron chef, move over.

Man comes to the door - I say, "For whom are you looking?"
He says, "Your wife", I say, "She's busy in the kitchen cookin'."
Poor boy - where you been?
I already tol' you - won't tell you again

I say, "How much you want for that?" I go into the store
The man says, "Three dollars", "All right", I say, "Will you take four?"
Poor boy - never say die.
Things will be all right by and by

Been workin' on the mainline - workin' like the devil
The game is the same - it's just up on a different level
Poor boy - dressed in black
Police at your back

Poor boy in a red hot town
Out beyond the twinklin' stars
Ridin' first class trains - making the rounds
Tryin' to keep from fallin' between the cars

Othello told Desdemona, "I'm cold, cover me with a blanket.
By the way, what happened to that poison wine?"
She says, "I gave it to you, you drank it."
Poor boy, layin' 'em straight - pickin' up the cherries fallin' off the plate

Time and love has branded me with its claws
Had to go to Florida, dodgin' them Georgia laws
Poor boy, in the hotel called the Palace of Gloom
Calls down to room service, says, "Send up a room"

My mother was a daughter of a wealthy farmer
My father was a traveling salesman, I never met him
When my mother died, my uncle took me in - he ran a funeral parlor
He did a lot of nice things for me and I won't forget him

All I know is that I'm thrilled by your kiss
I don't know any more than this
Poor boy, pickin' up sticks
Build ya a house out of mortar and bricks

Knockin' on the door, I say, "Who is it and where are you from?"
Man says, "Freddy!" I say, "Freddy who?" He says, "Freddy or not here I come."
Poor boy 'neath the stars that shine
Washin' them dishes, feedin' them swine

Bob is coming to our area on Saturday. Your descriptive reviews are so enjoyable. It really adds to our anticipation here (further down the line.)
The weather is supposed to be awesome (cooler) for July. I've been listening to my Bob D on Tour playlist. Just a great way to get ready!!

Motherlode Of The Tour

5

This has to be the motherlode of tour due to the venue. Had Sec 5 Row F seats, and it nice to see the show in a "shed" setting, where you could sit down between set breaks. I thought the set list was spot on, and I was close enough to see Bob and the Boys exchanging smiles during "jams". I didn't have any issuses with security, and yes, the traffic was congested getting in. But as others have pointed out, there was around a crowd of 13,000,and with a two lane country New York state road as the locaction, what can you expect? When Bob came out front to sing "Forgetful Heart", with expression and gestures it was a real plus. It showed that as much as he wants to "play" the reserved, reclusive performer facade, he truly has a heart like all of us.

In the midst of a rainy summer and below average temperatures we were reluctant to commit to a trip to Bethel, NY as we were already hooked up for a show closer to home.
However, the old alfalfa field of 40 years ago has been all prettied up and it is a good venue to see a show. So off to the woods we went.
In 1969 the country was well into a military conflict abroad and the banging of the drum for civil rights at home was echoing loud and clear. The Woodstock Festival brought together music, lots of people and social harmony. However, even though it was in his own backyard, amazingly it didn’t bring out Bob Dylan. Bob and his cowboy band showed up tonight.
We opted for lawn seats for this show and took up a piece of real estate center lawn. The sun was out but rain clouds lurked all around the park.
The Wiyos opened the evening and these guys inspired me to walk up the hill and buy a CD. Nice renditions of Blind Willie McTell and Lil’ Walter songs. The Wiyos are a bluesy, New Orleans ragtime, feel of a band with a lot of future potential.
Willie Nelson & his band gave a good performance. The little sister playing piano, just outstanding! We could have listened to Willie all night long.
John Mellencamp was a crowd pleaser with a nice solo on the acoustic guitar. Even with the rain that came folks were up on their feet singing along to some well done old favorites.
By the time Dylan took to the stage the rain had cleared and the stars were shining.
Attending a Bob Dylan show is like Forest Gump’s box of chocolates: “you never know what you’re going to get” (as far as, in the way a song will be played) and this show was no exception.
The show kicked off with an old favorite of the fans, Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat, and Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright, with Bob on guitar. In response, a good sing along, toe tap and hand clap from the crowd.
Tonight’s performance of Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum, which would normally have me reaching for a piece of gum and saying ho hum instead had me engaged. The guitar licks made you take notice. However, it also had you looking to see if there was a monkey with a red hat sitting on Bob’s shoulder cranking the organ grinder. Po’ Boy is another tune that many fans might not have on their wish list. Bob and his cowboy band’s enticing version of this song plays better in show than on record.
With stars shinning in the night sky Bob moseyed out from his keyboard and played a hollowing harmonica and crooned out a captivating version of Forgetful Heart. For a moment you could imagine yourself camped out on the range with your feet by the fire and your head on a bed roll staring at the night sky. This is clearly another song that plays better in show then on record.
The muted man who sings and the soldier band made their stand with a set list that at first glance wouldn’t knock your socks off. But, that is what’s so amazing about a Bob Dylan show. What the show may lack in: popular favorites, dusty shelved never sung songs, or sing along renditions instead, provides you a new perspective of songs that aren't popular favorites ( they don’t get much play at home).
Despite a brief shower, tonight was a beautiful evening with the stars shinning and the sweet smell of timothy on the breeze. Bob Dylan the matchless musician and his polished cowboy band provided an evening of a couple of time-honored favorites, not so popular tunes coupled with new grooves that will grow old and better like fine wine. How about that Jolene!

My Third

It was my third time seeing Bob and probably least favorite so far but only because you're first is your first (at the Beacon) and the second I was real close to the stage (at Yogi Berra in NJ). Still I loved the set. "Tweedle Dum" is one of my favorite Dylan tunes and "Forgetful Hearts" is one of the best tracks from the new LP. Glad to hear "Thunder Mountain" as well and I love the version of "Hattie Carrol". Does anyone know where I could download a similar version of "Hattie"? I like it much more than the accoustic version. First time I saw him play guitar and on two songs to boot!
Why doesn't Bob play any of "Blood on the Tracks" these days? Bad memories?
Still, great show. I plan on seeing him again when I can.
I agree with some other posts about the security staff, they were a little harsh kicking people off the lawn and all but the grounds are beautiful.

Security Staff

After the concert, which I truly enjoyed, I stayed around for a while and heard some of the security staff discussing "what they would find tonight" and other comments which I soon found out refered to what lost items they would find from people who were at the concert. It was quite clear from their conversation before their search and from what I had heard during their search of the lawn area that their intention was to keep any items of value. After a pair of security guys left the beer tent area they began searching with flashlights so I walked down to where they were searching and heard them talking with each other about things they had found and taken with them (not having turned them into lost and found). This is especially disturbing because of the trust we place in sucurity people and in the concert venue which employes them.

Bethel Show

This was my 4th show, my girlfriend's 1st & we both loved it. Bob is getting better with age & this band has been sticking together & is better each time I've seen them. Loved going to the Bethel location, it was the highlight of our summer. She was more thrilled than I, & I had one of the best times at a concert ever. Loved the opener, Leopardskin Pillbox Hat is my favorite Dylan tune.

I really liked seeing Bob out in front of the stage without a guitar or keyboard doing Forgetful Heart as well , I thought that was the highlight of this show. Nice to see Bob playing guitar at the beginning too. This is the only show Ive seen on this tour so far and it seems the set list has shortened a bit and Bob doesnt seem to be encouraging the guitarists to take solos. No fiddle playing either I noticed and not a lot of harmonica. This show didint have any magical moments for me , my 34th show, but I would rate it as a good show, Bob did seem in good spirit and I had good seats so it was nice to be undercover in the rain and outside at the same time .Sound was good and band was tight as usual plus I was sitting near some cool people and that always raises the concert energy. Pillbox hat, Hattie Carroll and Forgetful Heart highlights, new version of tweedle dee with interesting guitar break. Kinda new version of Po Boy. Getting in and out of this place is a drag for sure.

Fantastic

The ticket attendant on the way out said the last she had heard there was 14,000 people....great concert in
which Mr. Dylan looked in high spirits and seemed to be having a good time...

In my own opinion I saw some chuck berry coming through

Forgetful Heart and Jolene were highlights for me. Dylan standing alone center stage at the mic w/ harmonica crooning Forgetful Heart was jaw dropping. I've always disliked this venue though..security are power hungry dicks and traffic in and especially out is awful. one lane...although we heard Dylan skipped the bus ride in and rode his motorcycle!

I thought you go to every show though, cleancutkid?

I mean, otherwise you wouldn't be commenting on every setlist, right? Afterall, you wouldn't be able to tell how good a show was unless you were there, and thus commenting on it would be more than foolish, and you wouldn't want to look foolish, would you?
