I drove in from Canada to catch this show, and I wasnt disappointed.......Johnny was great, Willie was fantastic and cute as ever, and Bob and his Band were in great form......the band is so tight and I was very pleased to see that it looked like Zimmy was having himself a good time, too.
Cant wait for my next show.....
One more thing...

Where were the Bob Dylan Coffee To Go Mugs? I tried to buy some at two different shows no luck. :-( I'm in need of a mug for my D & D.
Also, thanks for the great shows in my neck of the woods. See you guys the next time you are back this way! :-) (hopefully with mugs)

Sitting? Really?

Thanks for all the great info folks. sounds like BD is in groove with this band.
Some folks have talked about "seats" on the grass. Were folks sitting on the field during the concert or was everyone basically standing during the entire time BD was on stage?
thanks,

The local paper was full of comments about bad sound, painfully awful voice, yada yada. Perhaps in the seats that was true. I watched Mellencamp from there and it was a loud and mismixed . Our group was fortunate to settle into center stage on the floor twenty feet from the master and the sound was fantastic. His expressions were profound and the band was tight. I've seen Bob four times- 2 good/two bad shows. The deciding factor was placement in the audience. The sound crew needs to think outside the 400 sq.ft. box and video screens would help the long distance viewers. For us, it was magic! It was good to see Bob on the harp again and his treatment of songs like Highway 61, Nettie Moore, High Water and Summer Days was pure progressive arrangement. Mr. Dylan truly came to rock. And those of us who could see could tell he was having a good time. This is the best band he's ever assembled and if Donny adds accordion to his long list of multi-tasking skills, the audience will be the beneficiaries. I enjoyed this concert more than any he's done in the past. As for his voice- the critics have always pulled that card and none of those Mr. Jones are still around after forty years and Bob goes on filling seats. Great show!

“I've got a song to sing
Ain't very long
I'm gonna sing it right if it take me all night long..”
Bob Dylan and his band, along with Willie Nelson, and John Mellencamp (and the Wiyos) rolled into Central, NY on a warm, sunny summer afternoon. Syracuse is the Salt City, and considered the heart of N.Y.; home of the Salt Potato, and (in her latter years) Elizabeth Cotten, American Blues singer noted for her unique style of picking the guitar and her song Shake Sugaree.
This show took place at Alliance Bank Stadium, home of the National’s triple A-team, billed as a GA/Reserved show and we chose the rail.
We had just seen the show in Bethel, NY the evening before and were hoping for a little more get up and boogie from the bands. We got it!
First up, a Brooklyn based, animated, ragtime band: The Wiyos. The band takes it name from a late 1800’s N.Y. city street gang (Whyos). Armed with harmonica, kazoo, washboard, guitar, upright bass these boys provided hip swaying, finger snapping numbers such as Little Walter’s, My Babe and Georgia Sam’s, Blind Crapshooters Blues. The renditions of those songs almost captured my heart, but it was Jack Boon that surely stole it…”Cancun, drinking wine, white sand...” will surely be looking for more from this band in the future.
Second up, the man, with the forever sweet smile, long silver braid and genuine graciousness that plays his faithful old guitar, Trigger with such an effortless ability. With a sign held high that read: “Shut-up Willie and Kiss Me” we were, as was the crowd happy to have Willie in the park. With headbands thrown to the audience and waves and kisses being blowin’, this showman and his band delivered!
Revved up and ready, John Mellencamp and his band knocked it right out of the park!
With a flag flying to “Ain’t that America” we were dancing and singing along. The band free to roam and interact with the fans this turned into a real hometown barn burner. The stadium was singing along to just about every song. From the field you could see the crowd in the reserved seats chair dancing! Playing some old, some new and some old there was nothing not to like about Mellencamp and his band. The cherry on top of this sweetness was an encore of Jack n’ Diane.
As the sun was setting the headliner was up next "….ladies & gentlemen, Columbia Recording Artist: Bob Dylan." The opener was, surprisingly enough, Gotta Serve Somebody followed by Senor (Tales of Yankee Power) with Bob playing guitar. The crowd was ready to continue the ride.
There is a scene in the film: Forest Gump, where Forest has been running, across the United States and picks up a following as he runs along, and out of the blue clear sky he stops and one of the followers shouts “he’s going to say something!” Amazingly, that's what was running through my head as Bob muttered to the crowd a remembrance of our beloved CBS Nightly news anchor: the great Walter Cronkite. Through the crowd you could hear whispers, “he’s saying something!” ,“he’s talking!” It appeared to be a novelty. Dylan and the boys launched into Million Miles.
The set list was filled with what have become usual tour standards: Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again, Spirit On the Water, High Water For Charlie Patton, Highway 61, Summer Days and the always sad tune of Nettie Moore.
For an encore Dylan and his cowboy band left the crowd with a stellar version of Like A Rolling Stone; followed by a new soon to be classic romping bluesy, Jolene, and tied it all up with a Doozy of All Along The Watch Tower.
With a new number one album “Together Through Life” Bob Dylan has thrown some new ditties into his traveling trunk and hit the road again! This leg of the Never Ending Tour being dubbed: “The Blood Of The Land” provides some, funky blues, led by the well seasoned master musician accompanied by a dedicated band that keeps a well trained eye on their leader. Perhaps that is why Bob Dylan and his cowboy band appeals to me on a summer evening. Dylan and his cowboy band are running the diamonds this summer it’s time to pack up the family and go to the old ball park and catch this show, it’s the best game in town! Summer...a sweet season indeed.

(For those who were at the show I was the one in the Dylan hat w/ a flower and feathers and the flag pants) As crowded, Hot, and tiring it was down there. it was worth every moment. This was my 3rd time seeing him and it was the best especially bring my Wife for her first time.
Watching Bob's facial expressions as he sings his songs gives new meaning to them. I loved seeing him blow a Snot Rocket in the middle of Rollin' and Tumblin'. (It's All Good!)
It was nice of him to dedicate Million Miles to Walter Cronkite.

Now I am really looking forward to this. I am seeing him tomorrow in Rhode Island. I saw him in Vegas in '06. The security made everyone stay seated and I could not tell what he was singing half the time. He seems to have dropped that calypso sound. I was also at a pair of Rolling Thunder concerts in '76, tomorrow my 15yr old son is coming too. Thank God for Bob Dylan.

Amazing concert.
The Syracuse concert was amazing, possibly one of the best I've been too. The Wiyos rocked, Willie Nelson was on the top of his game (honestly, he was the best act), Mellencamp rocked, and Dylan closed things out right at the end of the night.
I've seen Dylan once before, at SUNY Oneonta in 2008, and I have to admit that show has a better setlist - however, in Syracuse Bob's voice was nice and clear. Zimmy even dedicated Million Miles to Walter Cronkite. Nice moment.

Mind Blowing Performace in Syracuse, NY!!!
The show Dylan put on last night in Syracuse was above and beyond my greatest expectations. Having never seen Bob before, I expected him to come out, sit in a chair, mumble into the mic, etc,, and what we got was the complete opposite!!! If I didn't know better I would think he was 25 years old again, He was full of energy and life, and we could understand every single word that came out of his mouth. The stage show was great too! The lighting was perfect!!
I went with two older guys who have seen him many times, and they both said the same thing, It was the best performance they have ever seen him put on!! If you get a chance to see him along this tour with Willie and Mellancamp, I highly recommend it!! The only thing I think I would have enjoyed to see that I didn't get to witness, was having Willie come out and sing a song with Dylan, That would have really topped it... But even without that appearance, the show was mind blowing to say the least, Everyone was in a trance of WONDERMENT!!!

In Syracuse, the holders of presale tickets sat on the field, so I would assume it would be the same for you.

Have they been setting up with Bob's keyboards on the audience's right side of the stage or the left?
First Time . . .
I've been listening to Bob since I was reprimanded by my music teacher and mocked by my classmates for bringing Greatest Hits vol 2 to my eighth grade music class (1967). I'm also a believer that his new stuff is, I don't know - amazing. I'd heard all kinds of negative stuff about Bob Dylan live, but the Syracuse show was EXCELLENT! Bob is a true American Treasure and one of THE preeminent American story tellers and performers of the last half-century. (But, it's unseemly for a 54 year old man to gush!)
Thanks so much, Mr. Dylan.
