We thought about going to see Bob. We were going to get a room and make a trek to Jersey to see Bob, Willie and Mellencamp. We changed our minds because the weather was terrible!!! We were going to buy tickets when we found out the Las Vegas gig was canceled but, it rained cats and dogs during our stay in New York. So we did not enjoy driving in the rain, and even if it was only a two hour drive, it would have seemed forever in the rain and mud. So our dreams came true when Bob came to the Hard Rock in Vegas, and we got the chance to see him there!!!! It turned out good!!!

Bob Dylan was amazing in Lakewood, NJ. I am so embarrassed to now know the Long Branch police officers did not recognize this masterpiece, living legend, icon, entertainer, musical genius, Pulitzer Prize winner, . My grandson is only 5 and has known all about and seen many dvd s of Bob Dylan since age 3. He sings the songs and everything. Gee, Bob Dylan, let me apologize for NJ. Along with thousands of others we stood in the rain looking less than desirable but had waited months for this evening to arrive. The Wios, Willie, John, and my fave Bob Dylan were wonderful. Standing in the mud with new found friends Tracy, Bob, and a couple who drove 10 hours from Canada to see Bob Dylan we were all sooooooo happy to be among them all. We were up front and could see everything and it was just great. When Bob Dylan came out it was magical. He was on!He played guitar and I had been hoping for that. He had a white hat on and a new lavender jacket, he looked great, he sang great, was animated, laughing, smiling, dancing he was just so awesome. You could SEE he was having a ball, you can see why he is still out there for us. All I can say is if you don't like him stay home, you won't be missed. I had an awesome evening, mud and all! Love Bob Dylan! Willie and John. It was just fun and an honor to be among these entertainers...Dylan does not need words for the audience just look at the twinkle in his eyes and that smile on his face and you will see what Bob Dylan has to say!

For the three songs I mentioned below I could not tell what song he was attempting. I could not make out hardly a single word and the arangement was unfamilar. It was not tell I saw the set list on here I knew what they were supposed to be. BUT, to me, the rest was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed Mellencamp as a fun rocking performance, and I thoroughly enjoyed Dylan. I was front row by the stage at far stage right. Where was I sitting? I was standing center stage. I have already stated that the music was very good and the band was very good. Sorry, that I don't share your opinion that being able to understand the lyrics at a concert is of any value. I agree that artists have the right to change up the delivery of their songs. I don't want to hear the same songs played the same way. Don't forget that Dylan (and other artists) should be thankful that fans, such as you an me, are willing to pay the price of admission to see them perform.
Where were you sitting? First off, Willie Nelson for what ever reason should not be opening or playing before Mellancamp. As far as Mellancamp's show it waasss ok, it seemed like a kereoke night because he knew everyone knew his words, he started with little pink houses, doesn't make it not fun, but it leaves very little for the imagination. As far as inuadible, really? The sound to me was a little clearer than previous I thought, and if you know the words thats fine but the music that they play is whats important. I think Dylan is trying more for the sound as words. He's played some of the same songs for 40 yrs, but he changes the way there played. The sound and the lyrics sounded fine on the field front and center, and not to be too egotistcal, but we're lucky he came to lakewood,nj, at all, and after 3 shows the next one should be "better", cause your gonna see Dylan!
I must state the obvious...this was not a good performance by Dylan. Many songs were virtually inaudible. I know the lyrics and they were still hard to decipher. Dylan's band was very good. Mellencamp's show was very good. Seemed to enjoy himself and interfaced well with the crowd. His bad was tight and his vocals were good (and understandable). He even thanked the crowd for coming out in the pouring rain. I'll see Dylan again, but I sure hope the show is better. I have seen him three times and have yet to walk away with lasting impression.

I geuss mine will be the first review that is not 100% enthusiastic. First the good stuff. Willie Nelson played a serviceable set with his hits included. It was a good way to start the night -- set a good grove. John Mellencamp completely rocked. Three or four of the tunes he and his band did would have likely satisfied any true rocker. `Paper and Fire', Rain on the Scarecrow,' and a new one of his done acoustic, 'Save Some Time to Dream' were the highlights for me. One line in that last song I still have on my mind is, "Save some time to dream; your dream might save us all."
Then the reason I went -- Bob Dylan! The 'encore' (more like a small second set and all excellently done) went: Like a Rolling Stone, Jolene (from Through the Life, the new album), and All Along the Watchtower. So he ended on such an up note after my standing for over five hours in light rain I was left feeling like I wanted more but had been at one of the best concert experiences of my life. The high point of the show for me had to be Workingman's Blues followed by Highway 61. Workingman's Blues is my favortie off of Modern Times and he did a stripped down version of just him on keyboards and a drummer. It was moving and every word echoed through me. Highway 61 was were he let his band cut loose and they did -- I think at one point I saw Bob almost dancing behind the keyboards. He was 'on' playing all night -- smiling ear to ear and engaging his band. He seemed to be truly having fun. The first tow songs on guitar he played great and the rest playing keyboards he seemed, as I said, to be having fun.
But now for the one and only one downside -- what prevents 5 stars in my review. Three songs were sung so inaudibly I had no clue what was performed until I got here and saw the set list. That is from someone who knows almost all ofthe words to almost all of his songs by heart. Namely, 'Watching The River Flow,' 'Lonesome Day Blues,' and 'Honest With Me' were in fact difficult to listen to -- straining to try to figure out what was being played and failing at it. That this includes two of the first three songs he did had we a bit worried at first.

The large tented bandstand was set up at the back of centerfield. The bandstand was raised about 6 feet or so off the field. A sound board was set up on second base, also tented, and blocked the view of the stage from the seats behind home plate.
All of centerfield and part of left and right field were covered with a temporary, rigid, roll-out decking material. The infield was cordoned off from the public.
No umbrellas or camers were allowed in the park. However, when Bob came out, a he-- of a lot of phones began flashing like fireflies ;)
Those wearing the Dollar-store bargain panchos, garbage bags or just towels pretty much experienced the full and merciless effect of the rain. If you're going to one of the shows and suspect rain, bring decent rain gear.
Yes. About half the songs he's done on this tour he's only sung once on this tour. The rest range from twice sung up to Highway 61 and the encore trios, which he's done at every show and Summer Days or Thunder on the Mountain, which has been the choice for last song before encore for all the shows.
So a real mix of fresh on the tour and steadies as well as a mix of old and new. Just before Workingman's Blues, Dylan leaned over walked around the keybaord and said something to Garnier, his trusted band lead man. Could have been anything or maybe it was a last second change in the set. In any event. It's a diff set every night.

Willie sang for an hour in search of a melody he never quite found. Maybe he was trying to keep from being bored playing so many old hits. I recognized them by the lyrics but not by the melody. It was as if he added two rests to the start of each bar and then spit out the lyric line quickly to finish in time. There was a piano doing fills and a harmonica adding some punctuation but the tunes all relied on Willie's lead guitar work. Maybe adding rhythm guitar to the band would have helped. A twenty five minute break to reset the stage equipment and then came Mellencamp.
Mellencamp's band played great; these musicians were really comfortable playing together; they played like they were having fun and knew what they wanted to do and how to do it -- rock and roll. However, by the time John’s set started the crown had spent three and a half hours in wind and rain heavy enough to stop a football game and the crowd in the seats was washed out and limp. Luckily the heavy rain subsided by the middle of John's set and the crowd loosened up a bit, applauding with more energy although no one was dancing in the aisles. The crowd standing in the outfield in front of the stage, on the other hand, was a lot more lively. Mellencamp's set ran an hour, give or take. And his show alone was worth the price of admission.
A thirty five minute break and then Dylan opened with Watching the River flow and Girl from the North Country, playing his statocaster like he was enjoying himself. Then he went to the keyboards for the rest of the show. In recent years Dylan has tended to deliver his lyric lines in concert in short clips while the cadence for most songs is something akin to a half step slow military march, and that was heard too at this show, especially Chimes of Freedom. However, the band played really tight and Dylan’s keyboard playing was looser, more fluid and less staccato than on the spring European tour. By the middle of the concert he was stepping out of the short clips and then his his phrasing was really moving. In particular, he gave a terrific, soulful workout to Working Man's Blues that was extraordinary. And one of the best rock and roll performances by any band I've heard was last night's performance of Thunder on the Mountain - the whole band got into a groove that they worked together into a rich roller coast of a ride of rhytm and rock and roll. It was so filled with excitement than I thought the rather limp, rain drenched crowd would awaken to its feet. The crowd didn't but the band sure deserved a standing ovation. After playing for well over an hour, Dylan came back and did his three-tune encore -- a three-verse version of Like a rolling Stone and a four verse, blow out version of All Along the Watchtower, wrapped around an especially fine the-beat-gets-under-your-skin Jolene. Rain or not, I wouldn't have missed it for the world – whats a drenching matter when you get to see and hear Dylan.

The show was a Woodstock experience: It was pouring rain most of the time, we were standing in inches of mud, everybody was doing pot, and the music was incredible! Willie Nelson, Mellencamp, and Dylan all put on amazing shows. The highlight of Dylan's set was a new version of All Along the Watchtower.

Woodstock
The show was a Woodstock experience: It was pouring rain most of the time, we were standing in inches of mud, everybody was doing pot, and the music was incredible! Willie Nelson, Mellencamp, and Dylan all put on amazing shows. The highlight of Dylan's set was a new version of All Along the Watchtower.
He was so groovy tonight

He was so groovy tonight with some smooth dance moves. I really felt the energy, as he was really into his show tonight. Set was amazing, once again! Aside from pouring rain.. The concert was, again, Incredible.
