Who was playing with Bob?
No Rating
Just curious, does anyone know who was playing with Bob that night?
I'd read that Charlie Sexton was in the Round Rock show and looked for him, but I didn't see him.
Oops forgot to rate
Willie was great, always is, what a happy man, Mellencamp was too loud but worked hard even though sick, loved Mike comming up to do last sond, and loved the bass player and violin, BOB IS THE POET OF MY LIFE! Thank you.
Thanks for coming to Corpus Christi, who would have thunk it

I am so glad I had my once in a lifetime chance to see the man who defined my youth, and encouraged my adult life. I mean it, Dylan is such a poet and the voice of my generation. Regarding the "Whataburger Field" show. Accoustics were different everywhere I went in the stadium. One area might be accoutically good for Willie, another for Mellencamp, but the only place that was good for Dylan was down on the field, which is where I was happy to go once the nay sayers left! Yeah, I got close, I got to hear, and I got to see my idol. I stood on the field, lifted my head to the sky, saw the full moon and stars and said "Life is Good" Bob Dylan in Corpus Christi with a starry sky and full moon, awww something to be grateful for in the screwed up world. THANK YOU BOB I was happy for awhile

Hi Kid. Nice to hear from you again.
How's tricks?
I just get a bit bored of people who link the name SLUMDOG with that over rated film.
I actually came across it on the Nick Cave song Pappa Wont Leave You Henry from the Henrys Dream album of the early 90's. I know it is a term that has been used for the Indian slum people for years.Like the sound of it.
I think some people dont get out enough, lol.

I went to my first and probably last rock concert, just to lay eyes on Bob Dylan. I was far out of my comfort zone when I went among the crowd near the stage. Just to see The Man whose music and poetry touch me so deeply. And I did -- I did lay eyes on him. Are you listening, Bob? I AM a fool about you.

And what's with this Rating business? Who can rate Bob Dylan, for Heaven's Sake?!

I have used the name SLUMDOG for the last 7 or 8 years as I was in a band named SLUMDOGS. Nothing to do with that awful film.
It just sounded like you only expected to hear old style Dylan from 45 years ago.
He is so much more than that.
As someone said in another comment. He wont lose any sleep over bad reviews. It just frustrates me a bit that people are afraid of change.

Though I wasn't at the show, I do enjoy reading the comments of folks who were there. Admittedly, Dylan's show in the past ten years polarize the people. I've always felt that either you get it or you don't, and I've posted to that effect in different places on this website. Either you get it or you don't. And there's a whole lot of people who claim they get it but really don't. But to Dylan's defenders, let me say, don't worry about the bad reviews rattling Bob's cage! The man can take it--and a lot more, too. He's been taking the hard hits since Newport and probably before that. Do you think he minds that a few folks complain that they couldn't understand the words or that his show was too loud? Nope. Dylan's an artist and lives for his art. The fact that we get to experience it with him is just a fringe benefit for US. Keep the shows coming, Bob, and I'll attend as many of them as I can. I can't get enough.
please stop treating bob dylan

Slumdog? Oh well, at least those Indian kids made millions off that movie.
Actually I DO know the song "Don't Think Twice"....somehow I just didn't recognize it....between Bob's mumbling (which was fine when all he had was his acoustic guitar) and the music overwhelming his singing, I never recognized it...is that MY fault?
Apparently me and old "Really Sad" have one opinion as old farts and you young people have others...nothing wrong with that...I enjoyed Willie and Mellencamp....Willie is who I came to see anyway...my tickets were free, so no big deal.
I believe my original comment was that I was "dissapointed" ...nothing about hating it or anything...I was in the suites sipping cocktails....what's not to like??
I just wish those damn math questions weren't so tough ;)
are Texans used to it?

Actually it was a pretty mild evening... as for the concert, if you've actually heard any of the studio albums since `Time Out Of Mind` you should have no reason to be surprised or disappointed. For the last decade Bob has been musically much closer to the likes of John Hammond Jr, Tom Waits or John Hiatt and last night was no exception. It was amazing to see a good portion of the ground clear out after his 3rd or 4th song (one of the reviewers complained that he wasn't playing the `hits` of the early 60's) but if you'll buy tickets for an act you've no reference point on you deserve all the disappointment you get. As for me, I was glad to hear some of the old favorites and hear the USS Dylan blast through some of the new favorites (`Thunder On The Mountain` was particularly memorable)
Does the half hour preadmission thing really work?

Going to tonight's show and I saw some comments in the early portion of the tour that there were problems with the promised early admission. Are they honoring the pre-admission tickets bought directly from this site? Thanks.
You acknowledged that wisdom
No Rating
You acknowledged that wisdom comes with age and experience. "Duh", is jargon for those who are a little short on wisdom. ;-)
Dylan is a poet. Fine. Show was still poor. There were other acts to compare with. They were better. I have gone to rock shows truly well before you were born. I have heard "loud". I have seen well produced shows. This venue had limitations. They had to operate under limitations so as to not damage the playing field. That limited their stage flexibility and positioning. You are a 25 year old fan. Great. no problem. Be a fan. I was an unabashed fan when I saw Elvis Presley right here in Corpus Christi, (That will give you a clue to my age... experience and potential wisdom.) But others with much more experience and wisdom (per your statement) think the recent show and particularly Dylan's part could and should have been better.
What I am trying to tell any future attendees is: if they buy tickets to this show, they better be totally uncritical and blindly enthusiastic Dylan fans. Mellencamp won't be at many more of this series of shows and Nelson has only a few more of this series after Mellencamp is off the bill.
I really wish I had enjoyed the Dylan part as much as the others. To decide to leave before the show was over indicates real dissatisfaction on my part and by others. When a substantial number of paid attendees leave a show before it is over, there is a problem. It was so bad that as we went to the car, a TV person outside asked "Why are so many people leaving early?" Be a fan, but the rest of us are not ignorant. Ok? Can I say "Duh?" again?
those of you who criticized the show... reply to "really sad"
No Rating
"really sad"... miscommunication when you thought that I meant "no one wants to hear the same Bob Dylan as when he was young." Read the rest... I said that I enjoyed the originals as well. Let me slow it down for you... what I was saying was that old Bob Dylan, new Bob Dylan, I love it all! I meant that new songs he writes are just as good. He is a poet. Do you read the same poems over and over and over and over?? I hope not. Change is good!!! You said that I wasn't in sight of bleachers being emptied as Dylan came on. Fuckin great!! You seem like a follower. The true fans are the ones who stick around. You should't say that you didn't enjoy a concert because of what you saw people do. There aren't many wise people left in this world who can understand what Bob Dylan's songs are even about or the beauty of poetry turned into music. It makes sense that people would empty the bleachers and people like you would whine!! They can't relate. You claim to be wise because of your age but yet you still use terms like "duh." I still say if you are complaining about speakers being too loud... stay home. It sounded great. Hey really sad.. your user name says a lot about you. Just joking. Maybe not...
My first concert

This was my first time at a big rock concert. It was great. I am seven years old. I play the drums. My birthday is coming up. I like Bob's rock writing. I like how he writes songs. They just sound right. I didn't like how he pounded some of them out, but most were great and John Mellencamp was loud too. My favorite Bob Dylan song is "All Along the Watchtower" and he played it and it was great!

If you didn't know any of the songs he played until Rplling Stone you haven't heard mucch Dylan.
Don't Think Twice? 1962. Ballad Of A Thin Man? 1966.
He has recorded too many songs just to do a GH show. Even if he did do a GH show you wouldn't know most of them anyway if you didn't know any of the set before Rolling Stone.
I have seen him 8 times in Glasgow over the years and I appreciate that he changes arrangements to songs. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. It is never boring though.
Been to see so many bands that play the songs the way they were recorded over and over with no change. They bore me.

I watched the live twitter feed for the setlist last night & imagined the heat, the humidity, were they dropping like flies like in So Carolina or are Texans used to it?
Have tickets for next week, and have seen him laughing.
He appears to be having a good time, shows it more than
back in say the 80's, 90's. Just one question: Is he laughing
at us or with us?
So for next Wednesday: 'Let me see you make him

You are 25 and extol the virtues of experience and wisdom gained through the years, but when opinions are expressed by those of years and experience and wisdom, you call them ignorant. Duh!
You weren't getting along with the fans up front. Wonder why? Duh!
You weren't in sight of the seats in the bleachers that emptied to 1/2 full after Dylan came on, all heading to the parking lot, or the steady stream of people from the infield to the bleachers and on to the parking lot.
Hey, your opinion counts... but less than those you consider ignorant in spite of their years of experience and wisdom as they progressed through life for more than twice as many years as your have been alive.
No one wants to hear the same Bob Dylan as when he was young? Why not? He was good! Yes we do! And if he is still good, we want to hear the new stuff too.
Don't tell me how loud a concert should be. Been there, done that. Many times.
Mellencamp and Nelson did much better shows.

First of all, awesome show!!! Bob Dylan's performance was the highlight of my night. Old and new songs. For that person who was complaining of the speakers being too loud.. here's a little reality check.. that's what concerts are supposed to be like!!! If you don't like the real experience of live music.. go drive around with a CD in your car!! For the other person who said they left early because Dylan only played songs that they had never heard before.. well then you are not a true fan and ignorant to the growing of a creative mind that is constantly changing with experience and wisdom as a person progresses through life as the years add on. I'm only 25 but I can understand that!! No one wants to hear the same Bob Dylan as when he was young. I liked the new Bob Dylan because that is life!!! I loved the originals as well. I wasn't really getting along with the fans up front but i still had a great time nonetheless!! Along the watchtower was awesome as some fans and I jammed in the front.. I could see Bob Dylan's little smiles sneaking up as he could see the enjoyment we were going through! A fuckin plus!!!

My First time seeing Dylan. Willie was Cool, Mellncamp suprised me. He's definently not my scene but he was sick and he still put on a good show. HE even brought somebody onstage to help him sing Hurt So Good. Dylan there is no words to describe him or his show. All the people that complain about different arrangements or set lists should just be happy to have seen the man. Every song was a rocker. All along the watchtower was AWESOME. I wish he would have done LOVE SICK though. A once in a lifetime chance (maybe) and i can say I saw the man. Whataburger field was a nice venue.

We left before I heard a song I recognized. The amps were painfully loud. I mean I understand loud rock music, but jet engines at 5 feet would have been drowned out. Dylan's part of the show was painfully plastic. At least through the first 6 songs. Lights up, song, lights down, wash, rinse, repeat. We left after the area we were seated was 50% empty from people leaving early.
Willie was fine. Before the show we joked that he was on first, because he was old and had an early bed time. After the Dylan show started we realized he was on early and left, because he didn't want to be there any more than he had to be.
Mellencamp was also good. Great violinist who got strong applause on introduction after her solo playing.
Willie's autobiographical songs were good, exchanging hats with people in the audience was cool Mellencamp was cool by inviting "Mike" up from audience to duet his last song. Mike was great. Did well. I hope Mike wasn't just a plant. But assuming not, he sang almost as well as Mellencamp. :-)
No doubt this was Dylan 's show. Big band, loudest amps, heavy stage effects compared to the others. If you are a "Dylan is the World" fan then you may be happy. Otherwise, not so much.
At the gate we were told no camera's no umbrellas, no folding charirs. Now the web site wants pictures? Umbrellas I under stand. Lawn chairs? This is in the out field of a ball park, the bleachers are 200 yards away, it isn 95 degrees in the sun, and this is in the sun, the fans are 40 to 75 years old, and the show is long with long breaks between sets.
Dylan can't really sing any more, at best he croaks. Sorry to be so direct, I know he has had throat issues for years, but we paid to see this show, and expected better. With the sound problems, poor logistics, heat, and plastic show, that doesn't leave much slack. If you worship Dylan, go to the next show. Otherwise see Nelson or Mellencamp elsewhere or just leave after they are on.
Well then...

Summer Days
Great show! Highlight for me was Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum. 5 from Modern Times doesn't get any better. Willie was great, as usual, but JC Melonhead should've stayed home (too pop cliche for me). Jack Frost is the real thing. For those who want to hear the greatest hits, you should probably buy a cd.

As the 3rd of 4 Bob Dylan Texas concerts I will be attending this summer, this one was equally as impressive. No question about it Dylan is in his prime, to all the haters, please go home. Highlight of the concert was Thunder on the Mountain he certainly plays it with a lot of heart. I would much rather have a crowed of true fans who know all of his great accomplishments followed with amazing albums in the 90's and 2000's than pleasing a crowed stuck with the idea of "protest songs" It was one of the greatest nigthts of my life and Bob Dylan is the sexiest man on earth.

Yes I am one of those who loved Dylan's music of the 60's....no opinion on the stuff that came after. Good news though....I didn't pay for my tickets, thank goodness!! A business "perk."
No, I wasn't at Manchester in 1966...never been to England...but certainly heard about that famous "heckler".

Are you one of those who think Dylan's music is only good between 1962 and 1966 and that everything that came after is shit? Then I don't think you should pay for going to concerts. Because the "New Dylan" is equally good, in some parts even better, than the 60's Dylan. And one big advantage he has, compared to other artists, is that his concerts aren't just simple best-of-compilations. You really get to hear something from almost 50 years of work in progress. And for that reason he alters his songs, so they change. I think you would have been among those who booed and yelled "Judas!" in 1966. But if you're as ignorant as I think you are, I don't expect you to understand or admit what I'm trying to tell you. Your loss.

Very, very disappointing...we were ready to leave after the first 6 or so very long renditions of songs we never heard of, but I refused to leave until I heard one I remembered from Dylan's heyday...finally came "Like a Rolling Stone" but it bore NO resemblance to the original recording. I guess Bob wants to sell new records, but the fans I was there with all wanted to hear his old favorites. Plus the very heavy and loud band overshadowed Dylan's voice...he might have well been speaking Swahili!?!?

Spirit on the water
Darkness on the face of the deep
I keep thinking about you baby
I can't hardly sleep
I'm traveling by land
Traveling through the dawn of day
You're always on my mind
I can't stay away
I'd forgotten about you
Then you turned up again
I always knew
That we were meant to be more than friends
When you are near
It's just as plain as it can be
I'm wild about you, gal
You ought to be a fool about me
Can't explain
The sources of this hidden pain
You burned your way into my heart
You got the key to my brain
I've been trampling through mud
Praying to the powers above
I'm sweating blood
You got a face that begs for love
Life without you
Doesn't mean a thing to me
If I can't have you,
I'll throw my love into the deep blue sea
Sometimes I wonder
Why you can't treat me right
You do good all day
Then you do wrong all night
When you're with me
I'm a thousand times happier than I could ever say
What does it matter
What price I pay
They brag about your sugar
Brag about it all over town
Put some sugar in my bowl
I feel like laying down
I'm pale as a ghost
Holding a blossom on a stem
You ever seen a ghost? No
But you have heard of them
I see you there
I'm blinded by the colors I see
I take good care
Of what belongs to me
I hear your name
Ringing up and down the line
I'm saying it plain
These ties are strong enough to bind
Your sweet voice
Calls out from some old familiar shrine
I got no choice
Can't believe these things would ever fade from your mind
I could live forever
With you perfectly
You don't ever
Have to make a fuss over me
From East to West
Ever since the world began
I only mean it for the best
I want to be with you any way I can
I been in a brawl
Now I'm feeling the wall
I'm going away baby
I won't be back ‘til fall
High on the hill
You can carry all my thoughts with you
You've numbed my will
This love could tear me in two
I wanna be with you in paradise
And it seems so unfair
I can't go back to paradise no more
I killed a man back there
You think I'm over the hill
You think I'm past my prime
Let me see what you got
We can have a whoppin' good time
