Once again on the road in search of Bob!

5

After 19 months it was time to enjoy once again the greatest artist of our time. So I flew from Mexico City on October 24th to Chicago to attend the 4 Illinois shows! On tuesday 27th I took the subway in the morning and got down in downtown Chicago where I took a Coach USA bus which led me to Rockford in 1 and half hours, there I took a local bus which by a dollar and a half led me to downtown Rockford, just 3 blocks away from the Metrocentre in 40 minutes. The weather was a little bit colder that Chicago and I have 4 hours to wait for the show. I visited a museum and got back to a bar just across the street from the Metrocentre where I had some beers. Going to the place of the show I met my friend Rosco, Che, Jose D'amico, anyway you wanna call him! It was great, it made feel really good. Someone took our picture. 5 songs I've never heard before live: Cat's in the well, Lonesome day blues, Under the red sky, if you ever go to Houston and Jolene. That's what you get no matter how many shows you've attended! Thank you Bob! The highlight of the night: It's all over now, baby blue! Last time I heard it live was on Mexico City back in 1991! Great show Bob! Thanks cousin Chucho for driving from Chicago to Rockford to pick me up! This was my 11th Bob show!

...show up the day of the concert, there will be tickets available from the box-office-- if not there will be ticket "brokers" nearby with tickets available priced at, or near, face value. Don't not go just because you didn't get advanced seats. There are always folks who bought tickets for friends who cancelled at the last minute. I've never been to any show where I couldn't get tickets day of-- I even saw the kinks at massy hall from the 17th row with a ticket I bought on the street the morning of the show. I'm glad I got tickets for kitchener-- when I saw Bob in LOndon, ON last year they were only selling the good seats on the day of due to poor sales. Go to Kitchener, you'll get a seat!

I think the two main factors

I think the two main factors for the thin crowd were the economy (17.2% in Rockford - at last count) and the venue. The Metro Centre is perfect for a truck pull or rasslin' match but really crappy for any sort of music. The acoustics are horrible.
This show was my 4th Time Around and I wasn't disapointed in the least. I would have liked to see Bob on guitar a bit more rather than at the keyboard for most of the night - but that's just me. The band was tight - as usual - and Charlie Sexton was back on tour playing lead guitar. Stu Kimball played backup guitar and Donnie Herron did steel and violin on a few numbers. Tony Garnier, godblesshim, is in his 20th year playing bass and keeping everyone on the right track. The drummer, George Receli, was outstanding.

All in all it was an excellent show and we had a great time and are waiting for his next show in Rockford.

Can't wait for the show in Kitchener. This will be my 28th show and they just keep getting better.Taking my 13 yr old son this will be his 3rd show. He loved the show in Niagara Falls in 2003.

i keep playing this one over and over again in my car and in my bedroom:

I can hear the turning of the key
I've been deceived by the clown inside of me.
I thought that he was righteous but he's vain
Oh, something's a-telling me I wear the ball and chain.

My patron saint is a-fighting with a ghost
He's always off somewhere when I need him most.
The Spanish moon is rising on the hill
But my heart is a-tellin' me I love ya still.

I come back to the town from the flaming moon
I see you in the streets, I begin to swoon.
I love to see you dress before the mirror
Won't you let me in your room one time 'fore I finally disappear?

Everybody's wearing a disguise
To hide what they've got left behind their eyes.
But me, I can't cover what I am
Wherever the children go I'll follow them.

I march in the parade of liberty
But as long as I love you I'm not free.
How long must I suffer such abuse
Won't you let me see you smile one time before I turn you loose?

I've given up the game, I've got to leave,
The pot of gold is only make-believe.
The treasure can't be found by men who search
Whose gods are dead and whose queens are in the church.

We sat in an empty theater and we kissed,
I asked ya please to cross me off-a your list.
My head tells me it's time to make a change
But my heart is telling me I love ya but you're strange.

One more time at midnight, near the wall
Take off your heavy make-up and your shawl.
Won't you descend from the throne, from where you sit?
Let me feel your love one more time before I abandon it.

IT JUST GETS BETTER

Amazing show. I'm embarrassed about the venue and lack of ticket sales. The band is great ~ we're not worthy. Don't miss seeing them if you get the chance. We took our kids too - college age and they LOVED THE SHOW. Rick Nielsen was there and I was surprised he wasn't invited to play the encore with the band. Otherwise...perfect.
Thanks Bob.

This was my first Dylan show and I thought it was aMAZing. I thought the list was great- every song rocked. He was totally rocking out everything, and the band sounded awesome. Also dug the backdrops. We are lucky he came to our little town. Great show all around!

Bob looked great - very dapper in his military garb. His pipes were good and his phrasing, well just Bob! I thought the drummer got off time a bit, but who knows if anyone could keep time with Bob doing his thing. Took my daughter, she loved it. Great blues for all time!

Very excited to see, hear and feel the music as it moves closer to Chicago, my hometown and the home of the blues.
Denver (current home) is getting pounded by an early season snowstorm, and it looks like I will have to wait for another tour to get to see Bob again. Too many logistics to overcome to be able to see one of the next 3 shows at the Aragon. Oh well one more cup of coffee (and another log on the fire) for the road. Sorry Jeff and Uncle Neal, we will rock better next time !!!

p.s. Paul, I agree with your analysis of the thin crowd in Rockford. The same thing happened here in Denco. Little or no promotion, maybe some weather affecting "walkup" ticket sales, and the usual other factors of pressure and time???

he keeps getting better

This was a great show. I saw him over three years ago in Chicago . That show was really good but this performance last night was even more impressive. My girlfriend who doesn't follow Bob as closely I do was blown away. She actually cried during It's All Over Now Baby Blue. She had never heard that song before.
The only downside was the thin crowd. The economy is no excuse. I blame the nightmare that is Rockford radio and the local media. They are hopelessly mired in the 80's and "classic rock" and did a horrible job promoting this concert. I really think this would have been better attended if people knew what great work Bob has been doing over the past 10 years. But the odds of hearing his new work on the radio around here is slim to none. I have to stream WXRT in Chicago over my computer to stay up on current music. Rockford is an hour from Chicago but musically and culturally it's a million miles away.
All that aside, a great show and I can't wait to see him again. Too bad Road Ranger Stadium didn't try to secure a date during his minor league baseball stadium tour over the summer.

Dylan was in rare form this night. Sporting a black suit with with red trim he attacked the guitar, keyboard, and Harp like a madman. He took center stage with just the mic and harp a few times which was awsome. He was showin' some of his fancy footwork also! I've seen him over 20 times and this was one of the best.

...for next Saturday Nov. 7-- Kitchener, ON. yeah, it's a hockey rink but it's the same hockey rink that Steve Earle recorded "Shut up and Die Like an Aviator" on a night off from warming up for Bob. Don't be afraid to let loose and rock that dump to the ground. hope we get 'gonna change my way of thinking'
