Great Show
It was a great show. I love the fact that I could bring my children. I brought my 19 year old, but I wish I would have brought the 9 year old as well. Bob Dylan is their favorite. He sounded great and seemed to be in a great mood. He played the harmonica more than the other two shows, and it was a real treat. The set was good. He will always leave out songs I wish I could hear, but when he has so many, he would have to play for days. He is one of only a hand full of artist I would pay to watch.
I've seen him a few times

and never has he sucked so hard.
THanks for counting how many times I said fuck.
I wish I could get my fucking money back.
WTF post--Sorry you were disappointed

but what you saw in Bloomington is what you get. I must say I have never seen him fumble with the harmonica the way he did, but at the same time, it has been awhile since he got out from behind the keyboards long enough to play three songs on guitar too---impressive. As for the way he sounded, some people enjoy recordings more; others take what they can get and are happy they still have the opportunity to see him live. It is true that he makes no attempt to sound anything like the recordings he has made, and the audience has to develop an ear for hearing him live to recognize the songs at first. After going to several shows, you will know them every time. If you feel so strongly against the performance that you would use the F-word seven times (and then post twice), save your money and listen to the recordings. Bob live is much different than what you hear pre-recorded. I did enjoy the show and will keep on going as long as Bob is still there. Long Live Bob

..I got that too, anyway I beleive "the beautiful man" can stand on his head and play the harmonica.
My grandgrandmother played harmonica very well with a special stomping sound. Last time I heard it she was 90 years old and it sounded good. I keep a harmonica in my car in case I got stucked somewhere so I can have something to do if the car battery is fading out.
Keep up the good tune! With love!

he set it down after picking it up backwards.
he didn't play it backwards, otherwise I would be totally impressed as well.

” So, BOB. Thanks for robbing me.
Thanks for fucking us all over that night.”
If I were Bob I would say ”you´re fucking welcome. It´s nice that you had this fucking home-feeling on a concert, most people make complains that they don´t recognize anything, fucking strange. And make sure that you don´t spend too much time with those fucking dementia patients, it might be fucking infectious”
Well I´m not Bob at all, just a fucking soul who is very impressed by someone playing the harmonica upside down.
Fucking impressed!
What The Fuck
Bob Dylan.
I want my fucking money back.
I used to idolize you, the least you can fucking do is apologize.
To play a little over an hour and fucking mumble is beyond pathetic.
I paid more than a dollar a minute for that miserable shit I tried to enjoy that night.
and fucking paid for parking.
I want my money back. I want an apology. I want to know how you other people even remotely enjoyed that performance.
Did you enjoy him picking up his harmonica the wrong way? Twice?
Was that the high point of it all for you?
I fucking work with a dementia patient that has completely lost his mind and can still play the harmonica better than dylan did that night.
So, BOB. Thanks for robbing me.
Thanks for fucking us all over that night.
That was not a performance at all. I figured some standards would apply.

After sending in an earlier post questioning the photo policy, and reading thoughts of others (particularly Irish Lass), I've come to the conclusion that I'm in the wrong on this one and that we need to appreciate how lucky we are that Bob is still out there sharing his genius. I'm Bob's age and have his first album (yes in vinyl) and his most recent work - yes, the Christmas album and have been fortunate to see him in person about 20 times throughout the years. I'll be in Fairfax next Wednesday night and I won't be trying to take any pictures - but I will be listening intently and I know the show will be a very special and unique experience! Can't wait......
That would suck, but...

I think it is pretty standard practice that there are "no cameras, no recorders" at most shows. I have been to lots of shows too, and most have that statement printed on the ticket. I am surprised they cracked down on you though with the cell phone cameras pretty rampant these days. I saw at least 3-4 cell phone shots from my row (row 8, section B) that were stopped by NO security. I think you need to complain to the IU Campus police, not Bob.

That's OK. More room for me. I don't like going to concerts with dispectful people. You're probaly the type who shows up late for a GA concert and then tries to push past those of us who stood in line for hours. All in the name of getting a good picture.

well i dunno about indiana but at the aragon they were being super strict at all three shows. it was definitely more than just your usual 'no camera' policy. listen, i hate authoritarian figures like the next person but when i'm told exactly what the policy is going to be and then i violate it. i guess i don't understand why you're so pissed. security might have been a bunch of a-type male buffoons but ultimately they are just enforcing artist policy. most times the venues don't really give a crap, they're job is easier if they don't have to do anything. that being said, i do find it funny that people were blatantly smoking weed left and right at the aragon (not that i have a problem with that) yet if someone even took a camera out they were all over you with a flashlight....

When bob got picked up by the cops in new jersey he was doing nothing wrong at all, was put in the back seat of cop car, was gracious and polite during the entire ordeal, didn't bitch about the cops, didn't blame or shame or try to judge or humiliate them or act superior or cool or self-righteous or pompous or superior or special. If taking photos of someone who has asked you not to take his photo outweighs simple respect for his request DON'T GO to the concert; you'll be doing yourself a big favor. I'm guessing bob doesn't give a shit one way or the other.

actually, just recently he was picked up by the police as he was walking around at night someplace. The people/person who detained him did not know who he was.
as far as the IU Auditorium being run by pros, that is a comically false statement. The security guards were classic thick headed people who believe that if they have a shirt with 'security' written on it that gives them a license to do what they want. When I left the stage area and went into the lobby I walked towards the door where I was forcibly stopped by three of these 'pros'. A pro would have let it be and just let me walk out the door. I was not threatening and I am not a threatening person. Like I said, I'm all of 150lbs. My glasses were broken in the incident, and other property was damaged for no reason.
and you're right, I did not leave the aisle when they came, I figured it was the last song or so, the lights were on bright, I'd try to get one good picture and then I'd have to leave the venue (if you were near me, you must have also seen the girls two rows in front taking cell phone pictures as well, no??). and you're right, I knew pictures were not allowed, that's why I was walking out of the venue peacefully before the show was over.
ask yourself this; did the punishment fit the crime? That is a very large aspect of punishment, theoretically. Was more force used than was necessary? Another large tenant of policing and security. I'm not claiming to be in the right, completely. I am just relaying a story that I think shouldn't have happened the way it happened.
being a fan of Dylan and writing on this website have virtually no correlation
I wonder if Bob Dylan at age 28 would have done the same thing if he were me? We all know he followed ALL the rules ALL the time....I'm quite sure there were far more illegal things going on in his tour bus during his shows with Willy that Johnny Law looked the other way at. I wasn't even drunk (was breathalyzed) or stoned by the way (much to the disappointment of the police I might add).
Not claiming to be some kind of innocent party here. Just saying that what happened did not need to happen. And for all that happened, I was given a warning not to go back into the place. So what was it all for??
Just a sad incident and a sad day, in my opinion.
I don't go anywhere I can't take photos

I like shooting pictures. If Bob chartered a jet and asked me himself I wouldn't go unless I could photograph the concert.
Response to Dylan photos

At the Tulsa show there were signs on every door going into the venue, "NO CAMERAS". And folks that were trying to sneak into the isles near the front were greeted by security and ushered back to their seats. Plus Baron was on Bobs side of the stage keeping a very watchful eye on things. Personally I don't know what the deal is with Bob not wanting his picture taken but if he does'nt, I'll respect his wishes and enjoy the show anyway! ROCK ON BOB!!
Re: Photos at Dylan Concerts

I am a long time Dylan fan. I love him for his incredible music. I don't care who made the "no photos" rule. I do not even care if it was Dylan himself. There are two issues here that I believe need to be taken into consideration. The first is that Dylan's fame has created a situation where he cannot even go out in public and enjoy what most of the population take for granted. The young man performing at "The Gaslight" was able to walk the streets without being hounded and had an entirely different life than the man you saw the other night. Imagine having to wear a costume just to avoid media shoving cameras in your face, or crazed fans begging for your autograph or to talk to you about insanely stupid things. I for one would not care for it. The stage is the one place Bob can avoid this lunacy. The other point is one you spoke about in your post. You stated that you knew taking photos was not allowed and you still proceeded to take them. I don't care what you were planning on doing with them. The point is that you knew it was against the rules and you did it anyway. What you experienced was consequences for your actions.
I am sure if you believed the rules applied to you then you would have had an enjoyable experience at the show.
Well, it's sugar for sugar
And it's salt for salt,
If you go down in the flood,
It's gonna be your own fault.
Here are my thoughts and
No Rating
Here are my thoughts and then I say no more: First, flash cameras are disturbing to performers. Bright lights make it difficult to perform even under the best conditions, but if every audience member brought a camera, performers wouldn't be able to perform. Second, non-flash cameras- whilst solving the problem- are still bad for use simply because to take photos or videos blocks the view of someone else behind you. Some people are not fortunate enough to be tall or have great seats, and therefore it is distracting to both the performer and other participants. Third and final, this is the performers job. I understand that we come to see the performer and thus, many may feel entitled to something in return. But like any relationship, a performer and a crowd are in a reciprocal relationship. We pay money for them to come and peform and they perform just as much as they do for themselves. To think someone might profit from their job, is not fair nor reciprocal. No one takes pictures of us while we do our jobs, and we would probably be annoyed if they did. At the end of the day Bob and every other performer put their pants on one leg at a time, and thus should be treated so. I don't think it is appropriate for people to take such drastic action over a minor infraction, but enforcement needs to be monitored. At the end of the night, let us all be lucky that Bob is so kind to perform his songs for anyone!
Photos of Dylan at concerts

Interesting.....I was at summer concert series when Dylan was performing with Nelson and Mellencamp and was on the third row center of stage - was told by staff there that only Dylan really tries to enforce rules related to "no photos" even though the venue in Atlanta allowed you to bring "no flash" cameras into the venue. I took many photos (very blurry and only for my personal use), argued with the staff several times and am now realizing I could have spent a night in jail! Strikes me as a lot of lawyers at work charging Dylan to protect his image and accomplishing just the opposite. I will still be at the concerts but won't try taking any more photos - I would think Dylan could get this corrected if he wants to and I hope he will...it's not a good thing.....

Hey "superfan" who just joined this website today: I saw you there and you were acting a fool. Don't blame Bob because you don't know how to behave in public. Seriously, do you think no one saw you disrespecting the security guy and refusing to come out of the aisle? The IU Auditorium is an excellent venue run by real pros. If you were asked to leave there was a good reason, guaranteed.
That being said, the show was fantastic. It was a real treat to hear It's all Over Baby Blue and Hard Rain. Thanks Bob!
Bob's Rules
No Rating
It was first IU 'security guards' who threw me to the ground. It was then IU police who handcuffed me and intimidated me in a back room, threatening to take me to jail. It was then Bob's crew who took the memory card and made nasty remarks to me.
It's just a shame, that's all, a shame. I'm disappointed at it all. It's not in the spirit of Bob Dylan and his music. I could see if I had a huge telephoto lens and was selling his pictures. I understand that. But I'm just a fan who came a long way, paid a lot of money and tried to take a few pictures for my own personal memory.
Are pictures allowed? Officially, no. Did many many people take them? Yes. I would imagine the 'no photo' rule was put in to place so people wouldn't profit off of his image. this was not the case as was obvious to all parties.
I'm saddened to see that Dylan has surrounded himself with these rules and these people. Take me in the lobby and delete the pictures if you want. But what happened to me was uncalled for. And in the end, those are Bob's rules. There are plenty of bands who allow even taping of their shows. There are too many bootleg Dylan shows to ever listen to. That's what made him a legend, that's what made the masses flock to him, in part. Now a guy can't even take a blurry picture of him with a point and shoot. Why?
What happened to the kid who played at the Gaslight and passed the hat? What would he have to say about all this I wonder? When did Dylan decide that he was too important that he couldn't even have his picture taken? It's just sad, very sad. It depresses me and makes me wonder what happened to it all?
It's all gone up in a fog. I'll be a fan for life, but like I said, my days of driving long ways to see him, to be in his presence, are over. I'm sad to say that I've lost some respect for him. Very sad to say. Very sad day in my life, honestly.

Excellent Performance
This performance was spectacular. This is the third time I've seen Dylan, but last night's show was the most intimate setting I've seen him in. Dylan sounded great, and his band was really excellent too. Enjoyed the set list, got a few songs I hadn't heard him do previously. Thought Ballad of a Thin Man was really great. Glad to hear a number of songs off Together Through Life.
Anyway, Bob rocked IU last night. Can't wait for my next chance to see him!

So sorry you were treated so badly. It's a different world these days, not just the business aspect but security and the sort. Could it be these mooses who tackled you, belonged to the facility? But even if they were Bob's, I would think, surely this wasn't his intention. Somebody must have got their signals crossed.
I doubt Bob needs me to defend him but isn't it just good math to simply leave it open as to whether these guys were Bob thugs following his instructions to the T (which I seriously doubt) --or possibly misguided Rambo wannabes --or bored-out-of-their-mind local hires fueled by visions of heroism ~or?? The possibilities are endless ~~no? For all you know, if he caught wind of this ~~heads might roll.
Being so quick to personally blame Bob seems hasty. Hopefully you'll look back, laugh and have a story to tell the grandkids as you warn 'em before your next Dylan concert to leave their camers in the car.
I warned my girlfriend not to take hers but she wouldn't listen, so of course when we got up to the door ~~someone had to walk back the quarter mile to the car. Fortunately for her I enjoy long solitary walks : )

I've been to tons of Dylan shows, seen tons of people taking pictures, have tried a few of my own (never really been good though, too far away, blurry, etc). Tried at this place with a point and shoot digital and that was the end of the night for me.
Taken outside into the lobby and pinned on the ground by 'security staff' (three on one). Promptly handcuffed by the IU police and taken to the back room. Intimidated by the police. Memory card (with all three of my blurry pictures on it...) confiscated by some really uptight man who exclaimed, 'this is property of Bob Dylan now!!'. A comical line to say the least.I've got his logo tattooed, so is that copyright infringment too??
Hey Bob. I hope you read this. I paid 70+ bucks for this ticket, drove 150 miles and stayed at a hotel to see you again. Tried to get a picture from a far (for personal looking, NOT re sale) and this is what I get?
How far have you fallen from the once proud standards you stood for? Too famous to let a regular schmo like me take a picture of you without literally getting beaten up, handcuffed and almost arrested?? If you were thirty years younger, you'd write a topical song about this sort of thing. It's as absurd as Bear Mountain Picnic!! I guess your image is too big for life now huh?
I'll say this. I'm done going to your shows. I've followed you for a long time, seen hundreds of shows and it's just gotten worse and worse. I was told I couldn't even smoke a cigarette by your tour bus two hours before the show!
Where have you gone Bob? To the masses? To the capitalism, materialism, and ridiculous rules that are the antithesis of what most of your followers (and maybe you at some point) stand for? What a scene it was Bob. What a scene. Me, all 150lbs being pinned on the floor by three huge security guys in the lobby of the auditorium over three bad pictures I wanted as a souvenir!!! Then handcuffed and interrogated while you played your encore. What a scene!
Much to the cop's disappointment I'm sure, they gave me a breathalyzer and I was legal, so I 'got away' with a warning. Great end to a show Bob. Absolutely fabulous. I know this was not you doing this, but these are the rules you've obviously made and you've got henchmen out there enforcing things that are patentally ridiculous.
If this is where you are with your career, I say give it up. If you believe that it's WRONG for me to take a picture of you for my own memory, give it up. Obviously, something has happened and you are no longer the Robert Zimmerman who left his home and went to NYC in search of something, listened to the Kingston Trio and hung out with Van Ronk. Did you allow pictures of you back then when you were starting out? Ever taken a picture of someone you idolize only to be assaulted, literally, as a result?
What has this come to Mr. Dylan? I hope you enjoy the few blurry pictures I took of you on that 4gb memory card. I hope you read this and remember what a ridiculously unjust thing was done in your name last night. I hope you think about it. I'll keep listening to your stuff, but I won't be attending anymore shows. Not if this is what you expect out of your audience. You sung about henchmen, beggers, vagabonds and the like. what about them now? too famous for them? too big for them?
I never thought I'd see the day when I would write that you, Bob Dylan, let me down. But you did last night. You let me down. I guess I should have just bought another 'officially' licensed picture or shirt or poster at the booth outside in the lobby eh?
Shame on you Bob Dylan. If I were a songwriter, I'd write a song about this to the tune of Bear Mountain, or maybe Talkin' John Birtch Blues.....

This show was LOTS better than the last one I saw in Louisville last summer. He was definitely ON last night and not as gravel-ly on the voice. His rendition of Thin Man with the long shadows cast behind him was top notch. Hard Rain was really good too. I am glad he is doing a lot of new stuff--a little disappointed he didn't do Workingman's Blues though. I got a glimpse of him at the back door for about 30 seconds after the show but was distracted by John Mellencamp, who was talking to Bob, and Bob disappeared behind a bus. Bummer. I did get a word with Tony Garnier though and complimented him on his big bass. I wish they'd do Diamond Joe just once. He is awesome. Long Live Bob
