Bob gets back to Dublin again ...
posted May 18 2009 by Canute

It's been a good month ... a new album which turns out to be quite superb ... Bob Dylan's Euro Tour 2009 reaches Ireland he puts on two great shows at the reworked Point, now called 02 ... I was at the first show on Tuesday, May 5, and it was a stonker (meaning very very good) ... he played a great selection of songs starting with a rocking version of Leopardskin Pill-Box Hat and followed that with a fine reworking of Don't Think Twice It's All Right. He had a large crowd on his side from the start ... Lonesome Day Blues was powerful (as usual) but for me, the highlight was Just Like a Woman ... boy, did he enjoy singing that! And the crowd, too. I hope you get to hear a recording of it somewhere. Quite, quite brilliant. Masters of War was sung well and Bob's other war anthem, John Brown, was well received and sung with strength and meaning. Highway 61 Revisited, Ain't Talkin', Thunder on the Mountain, Like a Rolling Stone ... they all came out sounding fresh and vibrant. But there still a surprise in store ... Up next came All Along the Watchtower, then a taster of the new album - and the only time up to that point on the whole tour that he had gone to the new album - If You Ever Go to Houston. What can I say? It rocked. Dylan bopped up and down at the organ. He was smiling and we weren't surprised. It was that good. Donnie's violin told us what was coming last, Blowin' in the Wind ... it has lasted a lifetime and still has a long time to go.
