It has been almost a year now since i discovered Bob Dylan and i love his songs more and more every day. I am only sixteen years old so i guess that makes me a pretty young fan. I live in Norway, but here there is not one sixteen year old that i know that listens to Dylan. But i got to say I kind of like it. It gives me a special feeling. like im the only one that can see the greatness of the songs. Most people my age says that Dylan wrights good songs but that his voice is shit. I love his voice and I think he his one of the best singers to make people listen to the words and lyrics. I listened to Paul Mcartney singing yesterday and after that i listened to Bob Dylans cover of yesterday. I got to say Bob Dylan made a great cover of this song. I have listened to Mcartney singing yesterday many times, but when Dylan sang it it was the first time i actually listened to all the words. I remembered all the words in its alright ma. after the first time I heard it. I believe this is because of Dylans incredible voice. Every time i listen to its alright ma I get new ideas in my head. the words kind of changes. I realized that this song might be the perfect song fore everybody that lives on this earth. because as Dylan said: "we all have a different definition of all those words". I believe that this song describe Dylan as a songwrighter. Because you cant really say what kind of music its alright ma belongs to. Its the same with Bob Dylan. (sorry if my english is a little bit bad)

It is awesome to hear that
It is awesome to hear that Dylan still generates new fans. In this day and age of what I like to call "Hate Rock" it is good to see that not all young people have fallen into the pit of despair and anger and can appreciate a true poet. Dylan Is unlike any artist that has ever been because he touches places so deep inside you that when you finish listening you think "How did he do that?" I always find it hard to tell people exactly what it is about Dylan that I like. How do you describe how an emotion feels? That is what Dylan is...an emotion. All I can say is that those that don't understand...They just don't hear Dylan.
I know how is that. I'm only
I know how is that. I'm only 15, and really like his songs. First I heard 'Like a Rollingstone', and after 'Blowin' in the Wind, and love it.
So, like I always do, I research about him e listen other many songs. And all what we can say it's not enought for Dylan. He is amazing.
Friends don't understand how I like him, because my age and etc, and it's funny, because I just can't explain that, haha.
Sorry for my bad english. Big hug.
Rafael, Brazil.
new fans young fans
it is wonderful to see someone so young truly reflect the essence of dylan. i became a fan in 1978 when i heard my mam singin blowin in the wind. i think she somehow believed it to be an age old folk song. i then discovered his greatest hits album in my cousins house and found the song on it and started to listen to it there because we couldnt afford a record player. it is i believe his ability to speak to us from speak across the ages that makes his art unique. the immeadiacy of his lyric and an ability to understand what went before. i bet if you examine your own musical heritage closely you will find similiar themes show up. dylan readily admits it is these greats of the past that he trawls for his own art that makes his music unique. he has always stolen from the rich heritage that is old traditional folk song and released it to a new place that makes it great. so we listen and think why is this familiar only to discover the tune may be 200 years old and it is this that connects us to our own place and yet it is also modern and somehow new.
You're only 16 years old and
You're only 16 years old and you write so well already about what you have discovered in life. Bob Dylan will be discovered again and again by people like all of us in here for years and years to come. It must be that way with a great poet like Bob Dylan. And your English doesn't hurt anyone. Keep writing!
Yesterday?
Am I slipping? Where did you hear Bob singing "Yesterday"?
Sounds like quite an idea. Although I did here Bob singing with George on Here comes the sun and with Van on a Van song which weren't so hot.

I agree completely
Listening to Bob sing songs from his heart with his magnificent voice makes my day!
There is no other singer that I can listen to all day, album after album, he's not redundant. Each song has its own story that he shares with us.
I've been listening to Leadbelly, Charlie Patton, Dave Van Ronk...
because I wanted to understand his influences, but when I listen to these haunting and beautiful songs I just wish Dylan were singing them. He owns every song he sings. I can't understand how anyone can find fault with his art. He has the courage not to be boring!
I'm glad I have this site to share on, because I don't know anyone else who likes his music.
I'm so glad he's coming to Vegas @ the Joint because I thought it was crazy to have an outdoor concert in August here.
Hey, nice to know there is
Hey, nice to know there is such a young fans here...(I'm btw 17 years old) I can say I agree with you about Yesterday...Dylan really makes things different and more interesting, and his songs are something free to interpretation. Each time you listen, different thoughs comes to the mind...
New Fans
Hi New Fans,
You aren't the first and not the last. Bob Dylan will continue to speak to generations to come. He has had such an influence on so many genres of music. It would be hard to calculate how much he has had.
Me too!
I hear that a lot about Bob Dylan... "He's a great songwriter, but he can't sing, blah, blah, blah..." I tell them the writing is only half the equation. The magic lies also in the delivery of those lines. His unique timing, emphasis, pronunciation and voice are what grab you by the heart and soul, make you feel the words. He's very special indeed, and that voice is my favorite sound in the world!

AGREED.
You dont know how much I agree with you. I am a pretty young fan as well, at twelve years old. My family thinks Im totally crazy because of all the Dylan music I listen to. His voice IS amazing, and no one I know loves it as much as I do. I really dont know anyone who really enjoys his music (besides my dad). Thats why i signed up at this website, because this is where people like me are. People dont really listen to his music, so they cant enjoy it. Everything you just said I can relate to. Thanks so much for posting this(:
I hear voices..
I agree, the first time I heard Dylan I heard the feeling of the voice in myself that I could not express. Dyaln can express what I feel into words and his voice and ONLY his voice can do that for me. Someone else may cover his songs but I don't connect with it. Only Bob's singing I can feel and connect with. There is something very special about Bob Dylan.
I truly respect and love the guy.
Greetings Norway
Nice to hear that you also like Bob Dylan's voice. I understand your words. I hear you loud and clear and do you know what? Think about it. The others must be impressed because you know at least two languages. :)
Over to Norwegian:
Så et lite tips på norsk her. Du kan alltids la Word luke ut de verste skrivefeilene. Det gjør jeg. :-) Det hender Word redder meg rett som det er. Men du skriver veldig bra engelsk så du trenger ikke å bekymre deg.
Voice
I agree - Bob has a great voice - imbued with more meaning and soul than almost any other singer I can think of.

Poet
Henrik Kirk you are as smart (intelligent) as Henrik Ibsen
Don't worry about your English. Your intelligence and analytic skills shine through like the words of Hedda Gabler. Keep up the great thinking!
