One Man's Dream

One Man’s Dream
By: Katelynn A. Moxon ©

One man’s dream fails to see its end.
The hands that worked so hard cannot go on.
Tired, he slumbers underneath the cardboard box
With a stray dog who finds in him a likened soul.
Kicked aside and unwanted
Like the candy wrappers that blow aimlessly in the wind.

One man’s dream finds its success.
The long hard days and nights of endless manipulation have worked.
Tired, he celebrates with a bottle of Dom Pierragon
And a secretary who knows more than just the size of his suit.
Held in glory and immortalized
Like the Greek God’s in the legends always told.

One man’s dream fails to see its end.
His body is ever chilled with the dampness of the cold.
His heart it speaks of truth
Honest to the core
But he watches his dreams fall to pieces
Flushed away as if unwanted booze in the kitchen drain.

Silently he slumbers in stench and sweat
Perspiration his blanket and concrete his pillow.
A swift kick cracks his ribs in two
As a drunken man screams “get up you lazy shit, who the fuck are you?”.

His crumpled Armani reeked of vodka
As he lit his cigarette
The flame highlighted his straightened teeth.
His hair was combed to perfection as the bitch hung on his arm.
Loudly he shouted “This is what’s wrong with the fucking city. If only they’d dispose of unwanted trash”.
Laughter filled his million-dollar smile as he climbed into his Porsche
Feeling her up all the while.

One man’s dream finds its success
Hidden among the corrupt policies and procedures.
The contracts are signed with innocent blood
As success finds its true price to pay.

One man’s dream fails to see its end.
Broken and bleeding he lies in a pit of decay and despair.
Owning nothing but himself
He hides amid the flames of hell.
He may not succeed but he does not fail
For he has courage but not in the absence of fear
He dreams as he falls to endless slumber

The cardboard box his palace
The wooden crate his throne.
The knit wool cap he wears is the crown to mark him king

Reality finally gives way to illusion as
One man’s dream finally finds its end.
