True History of the Wilbury Twist, Down the Highway.
posted Nov 29 2008 by javalogy

There are a bunch of great Traveling Wilburys photos at "Down the Highway" and it got me to thinking about the mini-doc about the Wilbury Sessions ("The True History of the Traveling Wilburys")--about how I need to watch that sometime again and soon--but also that I remember realizing as I watched that film, that Roy Orbison was the star among the stars--that all these famous musicians were all star-struck around him! I mean, for most of the other band members (George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, and "Buster Sidebury"/Jim Keltner) they were all able to be peers--which, in a different context, they wouldn't be...they'd be the icons. Yes, they were all friends, but Orbison was someone that all these other great musicians grew up admiring, so that no matter how humble and "normal" he was being, it seemed (to me) that it was pretty difficult for everyone else to be completely "normal" around him (I wonder if any of them had to resist an impulse to ask him for his autograph!). ^_^ I am grateful to be able to see that footage of Mr. Orbison though, because it wasn't too long after that, he passed away. And George has moved on too... Better not go there! Don't wanna start the day in sorrow, got too much to do! Honey, honey, honey, ain't no time to think, everybody do the Wilbury Twist!
