I've never in my life had a bad time in NYC, I love the place, the people, the vibe. Best city in the world!!
Not usually good at reviews. Still suffering 'bob-burnout". Brooklyn rocked!!! Ran into a "rail-friend" at an italian restaurant before the show. This lady always waits hours in line to be on the rail and changes into something very sexy to wear before the show starts. She hollered hello to me as I walked by, she was already dressed to the nines. Stopped there to eat a "real" pizza. Weather was perfect. Thunder and lightning in line, not a drop of rain fell. Great Absolutely Sweet Marie soundcheck, didn't play it that show of course.
Great NY crowd. I'm not used to such fashion living in Texas, the styles blew me away. Families were having cookouts waiting to spend the show outside listening for free. Jews for Jesus passed out pamphlets. Show started later than any I've been to, ticket said 7, started at 8:30. Bob must have known everyone was waiting for music to start to get stoned. Rainy Day Women and everyone around our blanket lit up, even the 70 year olds next to us, I was floored. Joints and bowls everywhere. What a romp in the park!! Spirit on the Water and Beyond the Horizon fit in well with the old Brooklyn bandshell, I imagined us back in the 30's dancing. Nag Champa and great pot smell brought me back to Modern Times however. Bob's keyboards were turned up in the mix and he sounds more comfortable on them each time I see him.
What stood out to me were the "war protest" songs, John Brown, Masters of War, felt the message strong. Bob snarled and groaned and meant every word and note. Honest with Me will always remind me of Bob's prophecy on 9/11 and was fitting for a NYC show. Nothin' like hearing a good ol' Summer Days at an outdoor venue, a beautiful man danced with his whirling frisbee, lots of smiles everywhere. He gave us his shout out to Alicia Keys and blew in the wind to end the perfect evening in the park. I hated to leave. In the midst of all this war we could all still come together in the park and groove for a night under the stars. Wonder if Yoko was there?
Back on the train sat a family, grandma dressed in deep purple, sexy mom and dad in hiking gear and pony tails and teenage son, probably about 14, with the perfect hair and ray-bans, looked exactly like Cate Blanchett looking like Bob. People with backstage laminates were snapping his pic and his smile showed how proud he was to carry on the "bob look"!!
