Dylan & the Dead - Born again (again)
posted Jul 26 2008 by markscalise

7/26/87, the last show of the short Dylan/Dead tour. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this experience was the genesis of the Never Ending Tour. Bob was in a bad place at the time, and I think that the Grateful Dead, in addition to re-introducing him to some of his back catalogue (a bizarre concept if ever there was one), instilled in him some of their long-standing performance ethos. You get up there, night after night after night, putting the best of yourself into it, and some nights are OK while others are spectacular. It's that possibility that keeps us, and Bob, going back for more.
