Hoedown Coming to Town
posted Aug 20 2008 by mckayc

Wednesday-
Bob and the band are coming to town a week from tomorrow. I already can't sleep at night at a week out. I'm worse than a little kid at Christmas time. What on earth am I to do? Wait in anticipation I suppose...that is all I can do. Meanwhile I have a ticket to Bruce, I have to start teaching again, and I have to start attending my own classes. There will no doubt be the usual ups and downs throughout each given day, but as long as the stars are aligned for the Thursday show I can't much complain. One should use "time," and not just let it pass; that is no way to live. But, it is true that "time passes slowly when you're lost in a dream." I'm as lost into one as one can be, and thus the clock ticks slowly, as I sit around waiting and waiting...

Thursday- the day-
I actually made it an entire week without having to update my reflections on how Dylan seemed so very far away. It is a bit passed 2 AM and tonight is the night! One more breath of Nag Chama, one more concert poster, and one more orange and yellow ticket stub to add to the collection. I have no expectations, as expectations usually lead to disappointment. Going with the flow I expect to enjoy whatever performance is presented. I am sure as the day creeps on I will get nervous as I typically tend to do. I don't know why, I guess Bob just gives me that jittery feeling like, oh my gosh! I will be looking for the bling on his left ring finger. I will also give Tony the round of applause he deserves. I will be attending the evening performance with my dad, and am so very proud to do so. It is nice to know that he will be enjoying it as much as I and not feel any obligation in being there. We have evolved in the Dylan areana together and it has been great fun. We both discovered "Baby Let Me Follow You Down" at the same time. It was magical. I really just can't wait. I enjoy the anticipation of knowing what is ahead of me this evening. In the meantime I will gladly lose sleep.

The Show:
"And it's a hard, a hard, a hard, a hard rain's a-gonna' fall"

Great show by Bob and boys at the Uptown last night. There was no Hoedown and no eye logo...but there was the usual excitement. He did an excellent "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna' Fall," and an excellent "Just Like a Woman," in which the crowd enjoyed beating Bob to singing "just like a woman." I heard several girls scream after "and she breaks just like a little girl." He totally rocked away at "Highway 61 Revisited," a number which I was not expecting. "High Water" was fun as usual, and I enjoyed my shout out for KC after the line "Kansas City," although I noticed some waited until after "12th street and Vine," to do so. "Rollin' and Tumblin" and "Thunder on the Mountain" were great fun...as always. Bob himself moved around a ton. I don't think I've hardly seen him walk around so much before. He would walk over to Tony and then back to his spot. He would move his legs, and shoulders, and frequently looked out toward the crowd. He faced forward and seemed so incredibely close when the lights went out. It kind of drove me crazy. He did have bling on the left ring finger. That thing could knock your eye out. I wonder if he is just messing with people or if he actually got hitched again. I don't know why he would bother tying the knot, it's not like he is ever in one place anyway. Maybe she's a really old groupie. They were all looking sharp in black, hats included. I told my dad before the show, that when it was over, like when all the others have been over, that I wouldn't worry that, "that was the last one." I always know that Bob will be back around to deliever and that I will be there waiting.
