Robert Gover's book "One Hundred Dollar Misunderstanding" is a novel from the 1960's. Bob apparently makes mention of having read the book in his interview with StudsTerkel. The curiosity of a Dylan recommended book led my dad to purchase and read the book. It was then passed along to me. I hope to one day persuade someone else to read it.
College boy Jimmy thinks he knows a thing or two about sex. Kitten working in a house on the other side of the tracks thinks she knows a thing or two about how to get an "investment."
Of two different worlds, Jimmy and Kitten each tell their side of the story. The stories by each are quite direct, they spell it our for you, not leaving much to the imagnination. However the frankness and incredible humor make the novel what it is. Kitten's words take some getting use to, as they are not entirely proper English.
Jimmy wants a weekend of sex. Kitten wants the dumb college boy to hand over a wad cash.
It was quite clear in reading the book that Dylan might have taken ideas from the stories to help devlop his own lyrics. Perhaps a second read of the book would strike me even more with such a connection.
This is a really fun read! Highly recommended. Thanks, Bob.
