There is a not-so-subtle irony to the hilarious new video created for the song, "Must Be Santa". However, people don't seem to be picking up on any of it.

Born to Jewish parents, Dylan became a Born Again Christian in the late 1970s. He then rediscovered his Jewish roots to a certain extent (and has been relatively quiet about it). Dylan has been occasionally associated with the Hasidic Chabad Lubavitch: the sect of Judaism that also studies the mysticism of Kabbalah. This is reflected in the video, as he dovens over a prayer book while wearing a hat (head covering, which often incudes wigs) similar to the band's. Although there are no obvious peyes (sidelocks), the wig reflects the idea. Notice that the band is apparently a Hasidic Klesmer band, or at least similar to one.

Now, as far as political symbols go, we have a sampling of America's middle and working classes celebrating the time of year when Santa distributes his wealth in a building that from the outside resembles the White House. Perhaps they are looking forward to check in the mail, or the rest of the bailout...Or perhaps they believe that with last November's "changing of the guard" they have been saved. It's no accident that Dylan lapses into naming the U.S. Presidents of recent decades, practically saying "more of the same". It brings to mind the Congressmen, Senators and their families who fight publicly over benefits for the middle class and poor while being quite comfortable themselves; bestowing gifts and bailouts upon the wealthy while taking money from lobbyists. Which "party" they represent as a whole? The working class Christmas party, or the White House one?

Suddenly we see The Guys Upstairs. They are the suitheads who've decided to "bail" (Wall Street, etc.), running for cover and jumping from windows (suicidal CEOs) as they are recognized by the crowd. Do the celebrating masses realize what is going on as the economy continues to break down? Remember of last year's Christmas, when SO many of us had hope?

I certainly did.

The royalities from "Christmas In the Heart" are to benefit "Feeding America" and other charities for needy children. They certainly can't expect much help from Wall Street, Congress, or from government bailouts.
